My God, will this torture never end? When will IDOC get their heads out of their As**s and realise that they are dehumanising these men who will one day be released to live among you.

Either bring more humanity to this place, or close it down. Oh, I forgot, how many jobs would be lost if this asylum was closed?

Only YOU can help end the torture of long-term isolation at Tamms supermax. This prison has been specifically condemned by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, but there won't be real reform until people speak out.

one day, people will look back on the human experiment of long-term solitary confinement and shake their heads in wonder and horror at the cruelty and stupidity of an earlier generation. "what were they thinking? how could they have believed this was a solution to crime, safety and rehabilitation? Didn't they know it only worsened prisoner behavior and degraded the morals of the jailers?"

Maybe they could just put these animals out of their misery and save my tax dollars for something a little more worthwhile, such as education...everyone is always so worried about the treatment of these "men", but no one seems to remember the victims of their terrible crimes. I'm sure the victims and their families aren't exactly living the dream right now, due to these poor inmates!!

I'm sure nobody is forgetting the victims of these men, we are all aware of the grief caused by crime. Nevertheless, when these men are finally released from this place, what do you think their mental state will be? Are you too stupid to think ahead to the day that one or more of these men could someday live in your neighborhood.
Give these men at least some semblance of humanity before it's too late.

For the crimes that most of these "men" have committed, they should never be released!!! Are you too stupid to understand that!!!

If I thought that ALL of these men would never be released, I would still say that they should be treated humanely. They are in the care of IDOC and this seems a damning indicement on the governor in Illinois.

But, as you probably know, unless you are completely blinkered, not all these men have murdered, some are there for being disruptive in other prisons, and if the powers that be think that this place will make them better behaved citizens, they must have their heads up their a***es!

There are exceptions that are not in there for life, but thses are few and far between. For the most part, the only ones that are treated like animals are the ones who show absolutely no respect for any of the staff. The inmates that act decent towards the officers and nursing staff are treated with respect. Many of the inmates that are in there are not in isolation as punishment, but for their own safety. I really wish they would stick the child molesters and rapists into a general population setting..I have a feeling it wouldnt be long before they were begging to get back to Tamms!!

Hey Dumb ass, tree- huggin Human rights activist, You and all your stupid ass cause do remember why all of these horrible "Mistaken identities of men" are in this fucking "Hotel?" I can easily say hotel b/c most of these men are so fucked up that if it were not for the "Hell Hole" they live in would otherwise be homeless without 3 square meals and a cot? You do remember these "Things" are murderers and rapists? Where were you when their victims were crying with their last breath for their momma's? Was there someone there for them. Was there someone there to tell them that even though they were good in this life that all of their "TRUE SUFFERING" would be rewarded in the next life? Was there someone there with the victim to tell them that it would be alright for their families whom would no longer be able to see them because some stupid fuck was taking their life prematurely for their own selfish gain, maybe a couple of bucks.?
So next time you are there holding the prisoners murderous hand, look them in the eye and see what their victims last vision was and then ask your self whose the one worthy of your time? There are plenty of victims advocacy groups out there that so need the support of someone who has nothing better to do than speak out for them. So tonight when u r tucking your loved ones in and locking your doors, ask yourself this, "If not for those poor prison Victims would I even be locking my doors?" If you are so sure that the cause you are fighting is right, what are you locking your doors for? Unless of course there are such things as the Boogy-man?

Everyone should be a CO for one day and work with inmates. Its not as easy as you think. keep in mind there is a reason why they are there. Just be happy they are there and what every happened didnt happen to you or your family!

You watch someone snuff the life out of your child and tell me how you think that person should spend the rest of their life, while your child no longer has one.

You can take your compassion and shove it right up there where the sun doesn't touch.

you are so right about this prison. Not all the inmates at the supermax are murders, or rapist. Tamms Supermax is where the inmates go for a period of 1 year for punishment that was for a behavior committed at another correctional facility. The problem is that once there the inmates case is not review for years. The are to be screened and sent back to population at the correctional center they came from. If the procedures were followed, you are right, there would barely be any inmates in the Tamms Supermax. Speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Each and everyone of these inmates has a mother and father and that inmate is their child. Yes he made a mistake, how many out there have made mistakes too. Open your closet door. What is on a man's record is not all it appears to be. The government can fix anything the way they want it.

Hey, I've got a question, were these men thinking about the sanctity of human life when they committed their crime, no! Too bad, we all make choices, learn to live with them.

There area lot more that deserve to be there. All you hug-a-victs just keep on believing the inmates and keep on sending money for their books, they are laughing all the way to the bank. If you could take one home for the weekend you would find out what they are really like, if you survived. They tell you how good they are and yet they still try to maintain control over their gang mostly through their so honest lawyers. All you are is another victim, so next time you send money think how much better it would be to use it on yourself or your family.

Jane, the guy who died at Tamms that was the topic of the article was a burglar.
