Perhaps if the DOC would do what makes sense in terms of community safety, the emphasis would be on proven-effective rehabilitation. Sex offenders need their own facility for intensive therapy. This would also decrease violence in the prison. If this man had a proven effective program, necessary changes could see him released to contribute to society instead of tax payers continuing to pay for his errors. Visit www.crimereform.info to view more about effective ways to decrease crime and its costs.

Certainly, we want to "protect our cubs". Someday he and 97% of felons will be released. Would you prefer to have a rehabilitated, responsible felon as your neighbor or one of the current 74% who re-offend within 5 years. In Oregon about 4000 are released each year. For me, I would rather have these folks rehabilitated, taking care of their familes, and contributing to society, instead of costing society more in funds and victims.

you've made some valid points..... i'm now at war within myself...

all nastiness and hostility aside.... are you recovering???

maybe you should start a grass-roots movement to educate taxpayers about this subject.....

and you are refering to the whole offender (not just sex) population in this 74% figure? or is just sex offenders? seems our system may need a major overhaul......Hmmmmm.....aahhh hhh......

Most often when we have "war within", it is an opportunity for growth. The 74% is an overall figure for all offenders. Sex offenders re-offend at 18.5%. As a matter of info, 88% of sex offenses are done by others than the s.o.. My emphasis is on the entire criminal-justice system and I am making efforts working with organizations and others who want better results than what we have been getting. One of my four websites addresses this at www.crimereform.info . My intent is to plant seeds as I am attempting to do here, with the hope that taxpayers and legislators, etc. will create better safety in our communities for a fraction of current costs.

Sexual offenders - RAPISTS - cannot be rehabilitated. We need legislation to deal with these offenders in a different way than just throwing them in prison and ignoring them; ultimately for them to be able to re-offend upon release. Who will be their next victim?

You have the assumed and incorrect position that sex offenders can't be rehabilitated. They can and statistics will support this. About 18.5% reoffend compared to 74% of other felons. Become informed. Visit reformsexoffenderlaws on the internet and/or crimereform.info. You can also learn how victims can be healed of their past.

They should've let him go. I'd have been waiting just outside the gate to SHOOT HIM DEAD.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Aquarius

If you're still happily munching chocolates and all sorts of other goodies, you'll have to take yourself in hand at some point during the coming fortnight. Maybe you'll have to compensate for all the festive over-eating by taking more exercise or cutting back on the calories, or perhaps you'll decide that you can't delay giving up smoking any longer. As Mercury turns in your twelfth house of secrets, messages you receive at this time may be very subtle or contain hidden meanings meant only for your understanding.
