I have a family member who I dont want to be associated with, he was in Pendleton but trasfered to Michigan city...he has a cell phone that I'm sure he isn't supposed to have. I dont want him calling me! He did a very bad crime and I dont think he is being punished by having this phone to talk to the outside world. if he wanted to be connected to people he shouldnt have committed a crime. I agree with you!

Well, sure if I was a dumbass in prison, yes, I'd want one. I'd also want 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and a mint on my pillow and filet mignon every night for dinner and a big screen TV, but it's unlikely I would get any of those things, just because I wanted them. But here's the thing. These folks we're talking about...? They're in - ready for this?- PRISON! They don't need nor deserve cell phones.
Ignorance at its finest..Please explain to me how one action or crime can define a mans character as a person? As humans we are going to make mistakes and we have to accept responsibility for these actions. Some like myself decide to make a change for the better,so that we can earn our freedom n family back, and to ensure that we dnt come back. People can change if willing to and with a little dedication. I had a cell phn the whole 3 years i was there n never once thought about using it to start a riot or escape.I was more focused on doing what i had to get out n be with my family and being able to talk to them everyday without having to pay an arm n leg to do so.

I wouldn't even consider treating them like my dogs...they are NOT EVEN on their level. My dogs know how to act, these idiots obviously don't or they wouldn't be in prison. They forfeited their rights when they broke the law. I can't talk to my son so why should his murderer be afforded the right to talk to anyone outside of prison.

You thug huggers need to quit whinning for your botfriends and husbands. If they were so concerned about you nad thier kids they would have been working a legitamate job instead of doing what got them covicted. Besides you should see the picture of you and thier other "Bitches" they share with thier buddies. Despite the way they brag of how thier women send them money. Wake up if you bark like a dog, smeel like a dog then you probably are one. SO don't cry if you get bit.

They get what they have earned. Cell phones put all officers at risk. There was even one case of an inmate having an officer killed at his home .... due to having a cell phone.

I pray that one day clueless people like you know the pain we feel as the families. Until you have met each inmate and can at least cast valid opinions about them do not judge them. You have no idea what we are going through.

WTH is wrong with you people. Obviously the votes for cell phone are from families who have someone in prison. Well, my son was murdered by one of those upstanding young men. I can't talk to my son nor can he talk to his family so WHY IN GODS HOLY NAME DOES HE HAVE A RIGHT TO DO ANYTHING MORE THAN BREATHE and damn lucky to be doing that. aCT LIKE AN ANIMAL AND GET TREATED LIKE ONE.

There are already tons and tons of cellphones in prison so it wouldn't cause an added or heightened risk. Secondly and most importantly, inmates wouldn't need cellphones if the cost of collect calls was so ridiculously and criminally high! If my brother calls me for one hour it costs ME $36.00. That's just stupid! Or he pays a guy $2 for an hour. Who can afford those costs? Lol. And you thought inmates were the only criminals. Lol

Then don't answer the phone call if you can't afford it.

They lose rights and privileges when they break the law. What happens when offender A steals Offender B's cellphone? Do you not think some off these guys are violent enough to kill over a cellphone?

I think prisons should jam cell signals and anyone caught bringing one in should have their hand cut off. That way you get one chance to change or you won't be able to carry a phone.

Are all offenders bad, no but they are in prison for a reason. Cellphones are too much of a security breach to permit them.

Yeah you should cut their hands off! Man you are so stupid!!! Why not cut tongues out for lies? Or fingers for flying the bird? Then you jack holes couldn't type these retard replies.

Oh, and to the Hoosier Vet, my point is WHY cellphones are so prevalent. Me not answering doesn't solve the problem. But you are probably use to leaving problems unsolved being a vet. Which wars? Desert storm, Iraq, Afgan, Vietnam?? Great job fixing all those problems! Quit being a douche and try fixing a problem instead for making it worse.

Came up with a solution. Keep your family in school and out of drugs. Then they wont be in prison sucking you know what to borrow a phone.

its also a danger for the inmates to the inmates without a cell phone, its a diffrent world. nicest offender ever could do his time without a problem stays clean but then he has this cell phone and here comes a gang who DOES need it for trafficking its nothing for a leader to send a hit in prison not to mention if they did have the cell phone all CO's can be in danger a CO makes the wrong guy mad and when he gets home he has no family and most likely you would be hit to all because of unsupervised phone calls. or no phones less of a problem and the people that are there to work get to go home because they have done nothing wrong unlike inmates.

So if the inmates shouldn't have cell phones in prison then neither should anyone who works there. As visitors we r forced to leave any cellphone in our car can't even be in a locker, but their workers carry them on them why? They need to be doing their job not worry about who's calling them and using their iphone for music and games. So if no cell phones for inmates or visitors why the workers. Then u wonder how they get them. The workers smuggle them in!!!!!

My fiance is in prison,
Did he do wrong yes he did. Is he serving his time yes he is. Is he perfect no, but guess what neither is anyone who is reading this post. It is hard to not answer the phone when they call your children miss their father. They are the ones who suffer. What are you to tell them. Sorry ur dad messed up so u can't talk to them. The people who want to judge and act like they are better than everyone else. I pray u or no one u love dearly screws up and is place in prison. God forbid u eat some crow! No one says they are perfect. The system is just a crooked and corupt as some of the people in there. As a tax payer I pay twice once as everyone else does, and then as a spouse. Not all are in there for murder but you judege them as they are. Some just had poor judgment and are stuck paying the price but guess what they aren't paying that price alone. Yea I could choose to walk away, but my children whagt do you tell them?

R u kidding me? I'm not saying all people who work at prisons do, but there are plenty that do traffick with inmates. Which makes them no better. How do you think they can get drugs in there. And cell phones. Last year alone Pendleton had employees testing positive for drugs and caught trafficking with inmates. When they say it's easier to get drugs in prison than on streets that's pretty sad. And they say you can get anything you want and a hell lot easier than on the outside.

i feel that inmates should be able to have cell phones just cause others want to mess everything up for eveyone else its not thier fault that is the reason there are correctional officers that is thier job to make sure things are done as they are suppose to be so cell phones should not be a problem you know inmates have a heart too and they would love to talk to thier family as well. you know if you guys give it a chance it would ccut down on violence and would give them something to do and have more family contact everyone looks at inmates as life long criminals and they are not
