If you cant afford to keep inmates the new president should do something about it.

i want to know if there is any help for prisoners being released. How many prisoners do have a place to go to when released a home to go to till one can establish a life and not go back to the system again. there would not be repeat offenders if there was such a program we just have inmates with a number waiting in line to go back to prison. does maine have any place for released inmates.

Dear Cindy; I was in the Maine Department of Corrections from March 1995 to February 2002. I first went to the Maine State Prison and then transferred to the Downeast Correctional Center. For the most part I was a model inmate. I am a convicted sex offender and Downeast was at the time 85 to 90% sex offenders. I went to treatment at DCF on a voluntary basis. I was medium security my first year at DCF working in the kitchen. It was hard work but couldn't complain because I could eat anything I wanted. I was picked on by fellow inmates when I first got there names mostly. About 1996, I was made minimum security and went to work on work crews. In the summers i worked on DOT and forest fire crews. Well in Dec 1999, I was off my mental medication and was segregated for mental illness reasons. Then was transferred to the Mental health Stabilization Unit at MSP. I was stabilized but took about eight or nine months. I had to practically beg to be transferred back to DCF. In 2000 I was brought back to DCF. In late 2001, I was preparing for release but had no place to go. I was told to go to a gospel mission home in Lewiston on Feb 2002, my release. I could not go there myself. I was escorted there by probation. I was not well received because of my conviction. I was robbed of my medication to be stable(I have schizophrenia) and after days went pscychotic by trashing a living room. I went back to jail to find a more suitable placement. After eight months (what a magic number!) I was situated with ESM in Augusta. Lived with another sex offender in a house. After two weeks we were kicked out because the captain of the sheriffs department lived two doors down! We went to a run down halfway house for about two days. Then lived in an old physicians home on AMHI grounds. In Jan 2003 I was visited by a therapist from Alpha Human Services a sex offender treatment program in Minneapolis, MN. I went there in February 2003. I would recommend this place to any sex offender in Maine who is currently locked up and about to be released. I was at Alpha from Feb 2003 to Nov 2009. I now live on my own in Brooklyn Center, Mn and I have two jobs and am going to college and will have a bachelors in accounting next spring. So, to prove a point if you are willing to seek and want the help it is out there.
