The Ohio governor and his prison director are very good at misleading the public on prison news. Have you read about CCA (Mohr's past employer) offering deals to states to buy their prisons for 20 years IF they are guaranteed 90 percent full of inmates??? Next we will see CCA buying our legal systems to fill their prisons. Mohr says he is all for prison reform and the wardens get salary increases. BUT they don't have enough officers to watch outdoor recreation consistantly. The inmates are cooped up in the pods too many nice days, and then Mohr wonders why the fights and injuries. The mail is being held up over a week at a time to the inmates because they have cut staff. The inmates are told there are budget cuts, and they must adjust. How much do they adjust to??? The majority get no vocational or educational training, so no hope of finding work when they are released. They are given 3 tshirts and underwear for a year. They are fed repetitious diets, and the food is overcooked to mush. They need a magnifying glass to see the meat in the casserole dishes. The mental staff has been cut in half, the medical staff has been cut. It can take weeks to see a doctor or dentist. Many are preyed upon by the young gang bangers because there isn't enough security to see what is going on in the pods, so they lose their property and the prison says it is not their responsibility to protect personal property. The inmates are afraid to complain much for fear that worse will fall upon them. When are our legislators going to put an end to this bs??? Our prisons are a revolving door for most of the young inmates, because nothing is being done to change them or make them employable. Our youth are going to prison because our government isn't providing mentors to keep the troubled kids in shcool. But that same government always finds the money for what they want to do, for their pet projects. We need to tell Columbus that we want them to find the money for mentors to keep kids in school, and we want our inmates prepared to find employment in fields that are hiring and pay a decent wage to live on. We want our prisons emptied, not 90 percent full.
