How close to death does an inmate have to be for the next of kin to be notified?

My dad was an Alaskan inmate in the Hudson correctional facility until 2yrs when he passed away. I was notified immediatley every time he was taken to the hospital in Brighton and had daily contact with nurses on the inside the entire time he was in the hospital.
I know many families of the inmates there are not very happy with DOC and HCF but I have nothing bad to say about either. I was always treated with respect and was always kept in the loop as far as my dad was conerned. I was even allowed to be with my dad in the infirmary the last two days he was alive. I had the great priviledge to be there holding his hand when he took his last breath.
I'm sure my story doesnt help you much but I thought I'd share.
You can contact the chaplins at DOC or HCF and I'm sure they can help you if you have a family member that is sick.

My son is an inmate in the Hudson Facility. He has been hospitalized three times since he went there from Alaska. Not one time did I get any notice from the prison and I am listed as his next of kin. The last time he was hospitalized was just days before Christmas 2012. If it were not for other inmates I would not have known. My son was in the hospital 5 days before I found out. He has dialysis treatments three times a week and caught pneumonia twice. One of the nurses took away the medication the doctor gave my son to keep with him and threatened to have him put in segregation if he didn't walk over to medical twice a day for his medication. The doctor who released him Christmas Eve, gave the guard who was with him antibiotics for my son to take later. The guard said the doctor hadn't given him any medication so until today he hasn't had any antibiotics. I guess it's too much trouble for someone to get in touch with the doctor for more, since there are none of the type in the facility that the doctor prescribed. I just read about the lawsuits against this company for withholding medication from the inmates. I also read about the deaths that occur, and the poor treatment received by the inmates in Hudson. I remember a native man who broke out in blisters and boils a while back on a Friday afternoon, and was told by the guards he would have to wait until Monday to go to medical. I called and talked to the assistant to the warden and she called 911. That poor man was in the hospital for weeks. Thank God, the other inmates carried him down to a table where he could sit an await for help. Talk about man's inhumanity to man, you can find it there in Hudson.

I also remember when the warden was hit in the head with a lock in a sock. The facility was locked down and no body received medication the next day. There are two things this warden should remember. 1. There is still a God. and 2. It is not him. This same God is watching what's happenin down there, Somebody should read Matt: 25 to some of those people. Jesus said, "What you do to the least of these, you have done for me". Watch the signs. God is tired of it already.

Today is January 7th, 2013. We are in another year and still my son has received no antibiotics for pneumonia. Thank God that there is more power in prayer than there is in any antibiotics they could withhold from him. Let us pray for the entire DOC administration, that they all recieve what they so richly deserve.
