inmates are very violent at elmira, if you do not protect yourself, inmates will rape you usually 3 at a time then murder you after the have had there way. if this happens you say nothing about it, thats why such a high suicide rate at ecf.

Damn, thats a bit graphic. Is it that serious? R the inmates hanging up everyday? I'm just asking because my fiance is in there and he's doing fine. Not a big guy, not a little guy, but definitely a guy who will hold his own.

The problem is the CO's. They are all a**holes! I wish I got paid good money to treat people like shit all of the time. It's bullsh*t!. Someone I love is there for reception for a NON violent crime and the way they treat you is inhumane. They carry beating clubs and can do whatever they want and their excuse is "no cameras". Takes a low, insecure person to be able to treat another like that. Murderers? Sexual predators? Yes, they act out of line then so f****** be it, but the CO's in most cases are worse then the convicts. Throw some cameras in there and lock those f****'s up.

I think there are a** holes every where and elmira is no different. But, all guards are NOT the same. These are very stereotyped statements. Open your minds people. Just because one person is a a**hole don't mean they all are.

I completely agree... But let me begin by telling u I just went to see my boyfriend ( someone I love as stated above) yesterday. They are given certain cell numbers in their tier on their block. He said he talked to this kid and yes I stress "kid" and he just turned 18 years old. This poor boy lead the group down to chow and because he was the first in his block, he was said to be the leader. It was his first day and he had Nooooooo idea what to do. Because he lead the group to chow and managed to seat himself out of place he was punished to the extreme. The guard kept his door open just a knotch, and when he went back to his cell apparently beat the hell out of him. There is something called a grievance that he can submit against them, but what is the point if they are going to continually be beat until it goes through? I believe in the power of the pen more than anyone but I literally have to bite my tongue everytime I go there. I have NO problem making a scene over something I believe in and to see this specific CO yesterday and not say anything Destroyed me. Again, they need I instill cameras in correctional facilities and if it takes a petition or something I am more than willing to take it. There is NO need for that.

My fiance might be on his way to Elmira shortly, for a couple of years. I don't know anything about that place and I really haven't been able to find any information about it online. I've read everything that you all have mentioned and I'm nervous for him. Do you have any other information or insight on the place?

SJC - I am sorry to hear about your fiance. My father is leaving this Friday morning for Elmira and I am scared to death for him. He is 60 yrs old and has a bad back and shoulder. How is to defend himself against men that are there for life and start fights for no reason. The internet sucks, there's no info available to help calm us. All u can really do is be there for him and left him know u will b there for him too when he gets out. My father said his "Goodbys" to us because he says he will die there but that he will go down fighting if someone tries to rape or kill him. If that's the case then he would be facing several more months before getting out. This whole thing just sucks..

I found out that everyone goes to Elmira for reception. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll be staying there. Most people get sent to medium facilities after.

He might not have a choice. I'm not sure that any of those is better than the other, considering that they're all maximums. Just tell him to keep to himself.
