Yep, you are sure right about the unions pricing you out of a job. And the same thing is happening right here in Alexander County with the labor union having a direct pipeline right into the county's treasury. I don't think it is necessary to pay a stationary engineer at a prison over $93,000, plus free health care, dental, and vision. There are plenty of individuals who would take this job at around $50,000.

I just to do not get it. Just a few years ago the State built this multi million dollar prison. And built it for a particular purpose and that was to house the worst of the worst. Now the State does not think it needs the exact same thing which they decided a few years earlier to build. Did the worst of the worst suddenly become better? And if so then the question is if there is a connection with this Super Max? Without the Super Max will the worst return to be the worst of the worst? We are talking about injury and the life of the correctional officers (whether at Tamms or at other locations) It doesn't seem there is logic in Springfield. I guess it all comes down to money. They just raised my income tax from 3% to 5%. This union agrument does not hold water. There are still unions in the other prisons. Unions have done a lot of good. I am not a union member however my father was a union coalminer. If it was not for the unions, coalminers would still be making nothing and working under dangerous conditions. Unions have their place. Wake up Springfield.

ITS NOT the state..its Quinn. Bowing down to the Chicago demo-rats that think tamms is cruel. You don't get sentenced to Tamms, You earn your way into tamms by your lack of behavior. The Shrek and donkey show has gone on too long. You idiots in Alexander co voted for him. they only one 3 counties of 102 and alexander was one of them.

I am very pro union and a PROUD member of the AFT. Unions are NOT the problem. Missmanagement and political corruption in Chicago and Springfield is what lead to Illinois financial woes. With two of our former gove in prison themselvs, what could you expect?? Don't blame the unions. Blame the crooks who for years have ripped off Illinois tax payers, lost us thousands of jobs, and raised my taxes.

By the way, I live in Dwight. Fewer jobs will devistate that town. The value of my property, which already took a major hit due to the 2008 banking fiasko, will suffer even more. Pat Quinn is NO friend of labor.

This agrument about $93,000 job makes no sense. Even if true that someone had a
$93,000 job the closing of the prison will not have an effect on this fellow. He will have to right to bump someone else at another location. Hence he still has his income only in anther location and the local econcomy has just lost another customer with a good paying job to another area.

It won't matter, the United States government is falling, and the ones doing so are freeing all the prisoners and inmates, as well as residents in psych wards and insane asylums, to add to their forces, and armies as part of ww3 and the rise to power to gain control over land.

I would be willing to bet that at least 90% of the employees at Dwight voted for Quinn. Not because they thought he was a good leader, but because they voted along party lines. Typical Democrat way of thinking, "Keep em dumb and dependant and you will continue to get their vote"!

Which party has been in control of the Illinois legislature for the past several years? Does Mike Madigan feel your pain? Republicans do not have a lock on ignorance, it is rampant among Democrats also. And I do believe Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosis, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangel,AG Holder, Rhaum Emanuel,Obama, and Chris Dodd have spent a lot of time at the ignorance trough. And I forgot to mention the flambouyant Blago, who dealt out tax money like it was growing on trees.
