Gun Violence in America: The 13 Key Questions

Feb 5, 2013 Full story: www.theatlantic.com 19

It's not like no one has ever asked them before. There's data everywhere and decades of research.

•How much gun violence is there in the U.S.? •How many guns are there in the U.S.? •How do mass shootings differ from other types of gun violence?

•What gun control laws currently exist?

•What could be done to reduce gun violence? •Would fewer guns result in less gun violence? •Would gun control result in fewer guns?

•How often are guns used in self-defense? •Won't criminals kill with other weapons if they don't have guns? •What has worked to reduce gun violence?

•Are the White House proposals likely to be effective? •How does the U.S. compare to other countries? •What don't we know yet?

And there is a missing question:

Is there a common link of pharmacueticals between all mass shooters?

Article was full skewed statistics so I would not pay too much attention to its numbers.

The answer to several of the questions is that the only gun control that can have a serious impact on the number of gun crimes is to totally outlaw guns of all types and have aggressive campaigns to collect and destroy all the arms like Australia. If you do this you will have less gun crimes but not necessarily less violent crime because you reduce the ability for people to defend themselves against thugs.

It is not a road I am prepared to go down, I believe it is against our constitution and degrades my ability to access effective self defense.

I was unable to find "skewed statistics."
Perhaps you would be so kind as to point them out.
The closest I found was the ratio of guns used to defend, vs used to commit crimes. While not skewed, it was an overly optomistic estimate from pre 'gun defense' viewpoint, and is probably even worse.

Nobody but you and the NRA are advocating "...to totally outlaw guns of all types ..."and so that is a 'STRAW MAN' argument, and a lie. Don't lie, it truly makes all the rest of what you say questionable.

I simply believe in making all gun owners responsible for all crimes committed with their gun, as co-conspirators.
Gun owners in our contry have been too irresponsible, tforr too long. How else can one explain the terrible gun crimes we have just seen this year alone?

Yes, all gun owners who do not advocate for strict registration and control are guilty for what happened in Connecticut.
YOU set it up.

With real gun responsibility, there need be no more silly talk and lies about "...to totally outlaw guns of all types ...", NO?

Gun owners must be the keepers of their own guns, or else.

I hardly know where to start, a politically left wing magazine calls another politically left wing magazine's collection of 62 shooting events as "The most comprehensive public list of mass shootings". It will be misleading to use 62 incidents to make generalizations about gun crimes. And the bold statement that there have been no incidents where a civilian fired back is very misleading. First off why did they say no incident where a civilian fired back instead of no case where a civilian with a gun stopped the violence. It is phrased that way because there have been incidents stopped with a gun where shots were not fired so they had to phrase it that way to make their point. There have also been incidents which would have been mass killings but were not because of someone with a gun. They have a point they want to make and they pick their stats to do it.

I am not going to bite at you supposed sensible restrictions because I know that the end game is total confiscation by the anti gun crowd. The NRA is right to fight them.

Wide Receiver was conducted with the knowledge of the Mexican government. It was a failed weapons tracking program and was ended. So, after that experience the ATF decides it would be a great idea to try again. Only this time they do not inform the Mexican government and do not even attempt to track the weapons. It would seem that the clowns are running the circus...

GUN CONTROL ! GUN CONTROL ! GUN CONTROL ! GUN CONTROL !

The democRATS are foaming at the mouth and are jubilating with the media
over the prospect of disarming law-abiding AMERICAN citizens.
They simply are having synchronized orgasms.
democRATS love these school shootings, because they think it gives them more leverage.
They care less about the victims.

The democRATS layed the foundation for school shootings and crimes in general.
The films coming out of liberal Hollywood teaches kids to kill.
democRAT politicians received huge kickbacks from Hollywood and the makers of violent video games, and from PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES.

What changed? Here is what changed: Powerful psych drugs were developed and became the profitable, prescription answer to a wide variety of extremely questionable if not outright fabricated mental disorder diagnosis of youth.

Little Johnny doesn't want to go to school - take this pill.
Little Achnach isn't learning - take this pill.
Little Jose feels anxious - take this pill.
Little Quantisha is sad - take this pill.
Little Leroy is restless - take this pill.
Little Miguel is rebellious - take this pill.
Little Allah doesn’t want get out of bed – Take this pill.
Little Latosha has a bad hair day – Take this pill.
Albert is smarter than the other kids – Take this pill to dumb him down.

Their minds are warped; they live in an irrational world - the Twilight Zone.
The democrats have given the murderers a justification to kill.
THE SUSPECTS ARE SICK, THEY ARE RETARDED.
They didn’t know what they were going.
The culprit is always the GUN – no the person using it.
The suspects’ brains are fried from all the unnecessary psych drugs
mandated by the COMMUNIST PUBLIC education system.

Aside from this, the three groups responsible for 92% of all gun-related murders
in the United States are:

- ILLEGAL MEXICANS
- MUSLIMS
- THE GHETTO CROWD
Their conduct is politically correct and therefore condoned by the democRATS.

Have you ever heard of GUN CONTROL when illegal Mexicans or black gang bangers shoot babies during drive-by shootings?
Have you ever heard of liberals calling for GUN CONTROL when muslims go on jihad murder rampages in the USA?(Examples: The father & son muslim team, also known as the “DC Snipers” who killed dozens of people in the eastern States.
Muslim HASAN who went on a jihad murder rampage and killed dozens of Americans at Fort Hood TX).

With that said, there would always be mistakes made when legal released weapons are in the hands of gangs and killers.

Yes, it was a failed endeavor on both occasions, but why should one administration "face the music" more than the other?

I will say this, at least the "bushism circus" had some funny vocabulary events.

Both rograms were very stupid. And those who planned both should be relieved of their government pensions and benefits.

The "smart" people behind both programs should face the music. I would note however, that after one failed program to turn around and do it again requires a special kind of stupidity.
