When turning weapons into plows, you get rid of all of them from everyone, including government. Otherwise it is the people who still have the weapons that usually force the ones who do not to use the plows or else. So point of order. What governments ever get rid of weapons. In fact ours is increasing every type to be used on its own. In western culture. Particularly our variation. Do people actually believe the criminal element will not have access to weapons? Especially when our own government does nothing to certain groups in a general sense who have much higher crime rates when they act out of line and irresponsible. The human species has not advanced enough to eliminate these things. And DEFENSE is part of the whole picture.

Please explain how banning "assault weapons" and hc magazines will decrease the amount in criminal hands.

There are already millions here that are grandfathered in. There will be black market import of banned weapons and accessories, and the only ones abiding laws are the law abiding. Not the criminals.

The proposed gun legislation will do nothing more than take law abiding citizens rights away, and make them more vulnerable to criminals.

I don't understand how you could look at the violent crime and murder stats from a place like Chicago IL., compare them to a place like Kennesaw GA. and still think the way you do.

A quick peek at the FBI Statistics on gun murder by race shows we don't have to blame each other.
It's obvious lawmakers don't care about who commits the majority of violent crime, or making punishment much more severe to fit the crime.
Law enforcement has to follow the lawmakers' lead. To some degree, their hands are tied.
The best thing anyone can do, is contact their State and Federal lawmakers and push for stiffer penalties for law breakers.
