The prison system in GA is a lot like slavery only they don't get paid for their hard labor. I send money every 2 weeks to my brother cause he is being served natural disaster food called provitosoy. The life sentences that these men are getting for the simplest crime is because of their color and the racist state they are in gives them no second chances. Everyone should be paid for their labor even if it's 25 cents. The prisoners have to pay for health care if they get sick & government employers do pay for their employees health care as such, they are government property. TAKE CARE of them they will last longer or reform them & send them home

Ok, so no steak a lobster but dang.....cornbread pretty much everynight along with mashed potatoes and no substitutions if u are a vegetarian??? that's like telling a schizophrenic to stop being crazy and just do what I tell u to do. and honestly, inmates should get PAID for their labor. Give them a sense of pride in doing something positive. I've worked in prisons and seen the dog food inmates r fed and the poor hygiene of some inmates because they have no family to send them money to buy extra things needed other than a bar of soap. Let's face it....Federal prisons.....country clubs.....state prisons......WORKHOUSES FROM ENGLAND!!!

Lol do you realize how much it cost tax payers to try and convict someone and then house them and feed them and plus if a inmate has no money they don't have to pay for medical so that along with whatever they get is on the tax payers and as a officer I say inmates have it good I the system especially the food they get quality nutritious food and you could feed a inmate steak everyday he would still complain

A lot of the inmates are in Telfair Prison due to mistaken identity and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are no second chances in Helena, GA innocent or not. One will be put away for life just because. Do not drive at night if you don't have to. Stay in the house. Please don't have any domestic disputes because the black man will always go to jail even if he is full of blood and knocked out unconscious.

Ihave no doubt whatsoever that the people who knee-jerk react in hatred toward inmates proclaim to be christians. It's so typical that these people have no clue as to what the person they say they worship is actually all about. They probably never will have a clue. Their religion is merely a rationalization for their own tendancy to judge wickedly. I know many people who were wrongfully imprisoned, and later cleared....some after spending more than 20 years in prison. But of course Jesus is a hateful judgmental person...at least it would seem so according to the beliefs of these inmate haters. Feed them right. Give them the basics of life. We are only helping to create worse people if we dont; we are demeaning and devaluing life; we are flaunting non-compassion; we are horribly punishing the many who are wrongfully imprisoned.

Telefair state prison doesn't even have proper medical staff or the medicines they would need there they have to be taken to emergency rooms, I know people who have had emergency surgery and are not given any pain medicine, other inmates have to bandage them help them get dressed and family was not notified of a deadly situation, I don't know what the rights to medical emergencys is but I know someone who is getting the answers everyone has the right to know they have access to medical care even dogs get better care than they are there!!

Paid?????!!! You have got to be kidding!!! Do you think food, shelter, and protection for a CONVICT is free???? All convicts should work to pay for their own food and shelter. We taxpayers do not want to see our hard earned money pay to take care of murders, child molesters, thieves, and the like.

mr. willis, i completely understand what u saying, but y treat these guys like animals? Treat em that way n release them back in society, n they gone act like animals. Prison suppose to teach these guys n rehab them into better ppl, but officers abuse they power n make them worse. some of these guys grew up broken,in the streets, n know nothing else. I say show em something better, u wont reach them all of course but at least u can reach a few. Thats Gods way. U could get caught up in some bs one day n that could be u behind bars, or even one of ur kids or family members. I seriously doubt u would want someone to treat u or ur people that way.

The Ga criminal system is outdated ! In new York state inmates have to work. In Telfair they sit around and do nothing !
In ga a white male can kill people DUI and do no time , a person of color will go to prison.
The person who said the thing about domestic violence it's true , I know first hand . My brother got 20 yrs do 12 for a broken finger , I can give u details.
I'm a retired c o from nycdeptof corrections.
Do you officers have lock in lock out procedures or y'all don't do it,
And don't compare how the state of ga take Carr of inmates and your medical benefits , the same system that puts them on prison pays your salary. The more inmates the better your job! Most co wouldn't even make that good momey of it were not no inmates . If the crime rate went down no jobs for c o, no job for police , ada judges ga would start hangin people again !
How r you as an officer going to hate the very people , ie inmates that feed you?

Everyone that is locked up. Is not a criminal. But the people who convict wrongful inmates will be judged. Then they wonder why people in their families always die of cancer or some type of illness. Yes I feel that it is another form of slavery. But what you people in GA need to do is come together in bus loads and make a difference. And start marching. Have someone to go in Telfair and investigate. My son is not from GA and is locked up their. But if anything happens to my son we will be their in bus loads. I'm working on something on this end as well. We love our children as well. And for every harsh officer think about your family.

It grieve my heart an officer got killed by the hands of an inmate. I am an also correction officer and we have got to take the prisons back. I have seen and work with male officers that are scare then I was and I'm a female. There no structure in the prison system today they let the inmates get away with alot of things that they shouldn't. I do not agree with that inmates are treated like slaves because they have shelter over their heads when people out free that are homeless. Food to eat and if they don't like the foods that are serve they have family members that send them money they can eat from their locker box. When there are people that don't have anything to eat. There are single mother that are trying to provide food for their children that not receiving ebt. Clothes when some people don't have decent clothes to wear. I do agree that some inmates are lock up for something they did not do and they are giving alot of years for first offend. It were said the inmate that killed this officer had life well I don't care he had no right to take anyone life, only God give it and take it. My prayers are with his family. God Bless.

Slavery.. You call laying up on there buts and watching tv, 24 hours protection, hot meals free dental and medical.Slavery.. I must be in da twilight zone.. Hey if you dont want to do easy time well then dont do the crime. Punishment in the penal system should be a lott tougher than this.

Im a former inmate of telfair state prison and I must say. The way that we were treated in there is nothing like the other prisons across the state of GEORGIA. Officers treated us Inmates any kind of way just because of that bage on there shirt and that uniform that they are wareing. Just because we are locked up that doesnt mean that They/ you all can treat us any kind of way.

Now that's a lie they still have to pay medical. They aren't even allowed to get extra things on store days until it's paid. There is truth to both sides as well as lies.

I agree to a certain extent. What about all of the inmates that are killed by the hands of gaurds? Shortly before that several inmates were killed or either beaten. They handcuff them, take them where there is no surveillance and beat them. Do your research and see for yourself. If gaurds stop sneaking in contraband for them and stop sneaking and having sex with them, then maybe they would have control.
