But, does it tell the stories of why the "inmate" harmed this person? Was this one of those "I am better than you, because your an inmate" type?

Was this officer a caring and kind type towards ALL people, or was he a typical rude "good ole boy" that looks down upon everyone in the system.

Granted, I have compassion for anyone who is harmed.

But, he did know the risks of the job, and still decided to continue working there.

Please, press, get the other person's side of the story before you decide to even try to praise and honor someone. There may have been some other underlying reason this happened.

DSilvermane, you have lost you friggin mind! There is absolutely nothing this officer could have done that would have justified an already convicted murder to kill him in such a cowardly way. You are an obnoxious individual for even posting something as stupid and insensitive as this on this website. You are a disgusting sorry excuse for a human being.

Nothing gives a person the right to take another person's life, unless their life is threatened. Inmates have more rights than a free person does. Prisons are becoming to much like summer camp, that's why prison's are filling up and crime rates are up. This inmate should receive the death penalty and executed immediately. The Department of Corrections in Tallahassee needs to approve the chain gangs again. Make inmates work hard, grow their own food, and no air conditioning for them, or heat if you ask me. Prison needs to be unbearable, so an inmate will want to change his/her life & not go back to prison. Prison's today don't even process the paperwork or pursue charges on half of the incidents where inmates assault staff. The Inmates that are in prison for serious crimes, such as murder, rape, kidnapping, child molestation, gang bangers, etc... should be put on a C130 dropped in the middle of the desert in Iraq, then drop their weapons after their out of the plane and leave them there. Let them fight the war, since they are such bad asses, and murders, and save lives of innocent soldiers, and if they make it through the war then leave them there to monitor the rebel activities. These kids today that start getting in trouble young (in teens) should be sent to boot camp ran by the military and military personnel, such as veterans. A base that was closed could be reopened, it has everything you need, including a hospital that can be staffed, so inmates won't have to be transported outside the premises. This inmate was a coward, he couldn't even give the officer a chance to defend himself, & he should be dealt with the same way.

I can agree with a lot of your statement. Prison should be harsh, true. But, in the same nature, once the offender is released, they should be a FULL citizen again! They served the punishment that society voted to have them serve.(And by vote, I mean the ELECTED officials making the laws that the public didn't protest to.)

So, yes, make prisons more harsh. Also remove all the "I'm an addict" cop out's and pleas. But, when they are released from prison, they are full citizens again, with ALL right's automatically restored!

Aerial, thank you for clearing up the standing of this officer. The media raises a lot of hype, but it comes from people personally known to the victim that tell more of a story. Again thank you for your maturity in your post.

It is a very unfortunate situation but I have to agree a little with Dsilvermane because some correctional officer do mistreat the inmates and say very disrecpectful things to them to provoke the inmates. I am not defending this inmate which has been convicted of murder already but there is alot inmates that are not animals. By trashing someone input or opinion is not respecting the correctional officer that past away either. May he R.i.p. Fldoc only release what will make them look good but at the end of the day it has alot to do with the closing of prisons, privatelizations of prisons, pay cuts and most of all lack of personels. This may be just the begining if something is not done asap.

Wow! There are some very disrespectful people in this world. This young man was doing his job.As a correction's officer you have to deal with the scum of the earth on a daily basis, being spit on,cussed at,harassed,By filthy, worthless beast's that are where they put themselves for doing stupid and inhumane thing's,If they get talked to like the bad dog's they are,Guess what..they DESERVE it!In no way is it OK for someone to stab a man to death because he got chastised or talked down to for being treated like the murdering scum bag he was! This was not his first murder and if he doesn't get put down it won't be his last,And meanwhile officer Thomas's mother, fiance, daughter, and unborn child will be laying him to rest forever,While this heartless bastard is still breathing! You delusional people who talk of injustice for inmate's...hopefully your family member will not have to guard this same kind of "person" one day or even be locked up in the same cell!

Beside's that what do you think prison is Disney world...No,It is where the bad apples go to get punished for the crime they committed,It is not a frickin vacation for the moron's to be treated like little babies,If their going to be dumb or evil, they need to be ready for the punishment, you try going to a job where there are 2500 convicted felon's (to 25 officer's) who hate you because you get to leave and go home everyday...you better pray everyday that you make it out! This murderer didn't hate him because he was being picked on,this is not high school,He was just waiting on the chance to kill again and succeeded,Well now it is his turn,I hope from this day forward he get's beat beyond recognition until his day to die arrive's,which will not be soon enough!!!

I have a question for you!! would u feel the same if that was your brother sister or father who a inmate killed?? I think alot of people need to ask thereself that question before passing judgement. No one nomatter for what reason has the right to kill someone else.. Maybe you should also check out the inmates past before passing judgement also.. For those that feel CO's treat the inmates horribly why dont you think about what kinds of things the inmates say to them. It works both ways. Also, This man died while working to support his family so maybe everyone should let him rest in peace.
