people are treated like dogs ? they have had a camping program there where the children of the inmates can come in and camp with their mothers for like a week using only the finest coleman camping gear that i cant even afford . as for it being old yes it is but not nearly as old as many of the mens prisons it was built in like the 30s and as for it being nasty and unsanitary its only as bad as the women themselves make it nobody is saying it does not need some upgrades due to its age and population but there has been a lot of things allready done in the last few years a new max security unit was built recently and most of the housing units that you cant see from the front driving by are way newer than the ones up front untill the last 20 or 25 years it was the only womens facility in the state by closing dwight you must consider the expence of remodeling upgrading or reopening other facilities else where to do the same job..

as a fall back plan to dwight closing i heard on the radio a couple weeks ago that the feds are looking to build a federal lock up in like steger or crete or up there somewhere and the locals were marching and protesting against it maybe our local officials should check into it and contact the feds about the possible option of converting this to a federal lock up it was supposed to be for illegal aliens so it sounds more like involving customs and border protection and not terrorists or anything to terrible. just a thought

They should turn the old Tinley Park Mental health center into a womans prison the state has about 144 acres of land just sitting there empty. since july 31 of 2012 it would be closer for the friends and loved ones of inmates that live in northern ILLINOIS to visit.

Maybe if you ever worked in a state Prison before, then you would know what its like! the rape and misconduct of the inmates that go on there. by the staff when they moved all the inmates to Logan now theres even more fist fights if you go in the bathrooms you can smell pot smoke but the c.os dont do anything, they are to busy b.s ing with eath other! they dont care that problem was their before the women got moved from Lincoln. the staff bring the dope in! that place is dirty unfit for anyone to live there. overcrowed,

Dwight offered programs not found anywhere else. Granted the prison is OLD and needs a lot of work but offered programs not offered anywhwere. Everyone gripes about the rate of recidivism but nobody does anything to help people in prison to turn around their lives OR if the inmate does the work to help herself it is not recognized by the review board. It's a shame that Dwight is over, the 3 different DOG programs are done including the beginning training program for the Lutheran Church Charities who take the comfort dogs to Sandyhook and different places where human suffering is eased by the dogs. Dwight was a huge part of that. The PAWS program and a dog training class was also offered at Dwight. IT'S Forever Gone? It's a shame. Let's judge all prisoners as the scum they are, not for what they did And the true story behind the incarceration. You'd be surprised. There are people who deserve all the hell they can get and there are people who don't deserve to be there. There will be suicides as people will not be able to take the transition. It's truly sad how are society judges, yes a killer is a killer but someone who does 2 years for kicking a filing cabinet and causing less than 50 dollars damage is ridiculous. Let's hold our prosecutors accountable? 50 bucks vs 33,000 a year?
The whole system needs to be revamped BUT???????
