Ignorance still is rampant. Painkiller Jeff suggests Puerto Rico should attain statehood or become independent, and purports to blame Puerto Ricans for the inaction. Jeff, it is Congress who gets to decide what to do with this unincorporated territory.
Congress is the one who has allowed this colonial status to persist since 1898, or 110 years ago, with its inaction. We could end this 110-saga with a binding federal referendum with the only two viable options: statehood or independence. House bill 900 is currently stalled in Congress. This bill, if passed by Congress and signed by the President, would be a step further for this cause to end colonialism.
Also, the political parties have great latitude in deciding how their nomination process work. The two major parties have rightly given Puerto Ricans the right to participate in the caucus/primary process. Puerto Rico, as an unincorporated territory, cannot vote in the elections for President and Vice President. Who says the major political parties have to discriminate as well?
Every time statehood was put to a vote, it was voted down by PR citizens. The U.S. cannot just declare a state without a vote of the people in the territory.

Were you the former Editor of the San Juan Star??? Man, did you leave at the right time...it's a usless newspaper with copy and paste and the editorial staff sucks and this Viglucci Guy from Albany, New York should go back to Snow Sking...

It will fold within 6 months and the englisdh language in Puerto Rico has disappeared like the Statehood Movement.....

Puerto Ricans are Puerto Rcians and will never learn English, accept another Flag, accept another Identity...

Thanks to Sila Calderon and Anibal Aceedo Vila, we are now a Territory and Possession of Madre Espana....

Will will never be "Americanos" and Puerto Rican until death....that's a fact ad nobody can dispute it for over l08 years....

The Chuletas of Puerto Rico will defend their beaches, their cities, their communities....they will never give up.....

Long live a littered and garbage dump called Puerto Rico....Tourism is dead, employment is dead, factories and even drug companies are closing operations in Barceloneta and Manati and Arecibo and the light at the end of the Minnas Tunnel is a Freight Train with no brakes...

Congress will dispose and dump this hellhole after the Elections in Novemeber....Associated Republic or Independence...that's it....

Why can't we send all the illegal Mexicans to Puerto Rico? After all they DO speak the same language - they would fit right in.
To say to send them to Puerto Rico would be like saying send them to Hawaii or an island off the US coast. They can't be send to Puerto Rico because that would be like keeping them in the US.

Congrats to Billary on her landslide victory in Puerco Stinko. Please stay on that target range island and keep riding in the back of that pick up rocking out to island negro noise. You fit right in hootchie mamma! PR folks got a FULL vote, Floridians a half! Just the Democrats though. Suckers... See ya in 2012. Vote Nader, you full vote will count!
