Cruise ship passengers stuck at Mayaquez Pier
More than 1,200 tourists, who arrived Tuesday at the Mayaguez Pier on the Azamara Quest cruise, encountered a lack of taxis to take them to the different points of interest in the region known as Porta del Sol.

Is Puerto Rico a world class tourist location?
Not if your cruise ship lands in Mayaguez. The Mayaguez Pier is situated well away from the City center, unlike the cruise ship piers in Old San Juan. Tourists do NOT want to be left to their own devices. They left the ship to explore but there was no way to leave the pier. How many tourists will go back home and speak well of Mayaguez? Even the Dominicans would have been more organized than this. The ship has been expected for months. The problem is it takes much more than a pier to entertain 1,200 people with money in their pockets. I hope Ponce was better prepared, because that is where the ship went next. |

What a shame. It looks like Mayaguez has lost out on a great opportunity to make some money. And you're right. There WILL be tourists going back home w/ not a very good impression. They'll be planning their vacations elsewhere.

Do not know what to say. But in Ponce, when a cruise arrives, there are happy islanders
dancing, playing bomba/plena, with arts and crafts nearby, and drinks for everyone. That is the intelligent manner to receive these captive audience, not the callous, indifferent manner in fashion in OLd San JUan. |
