Who were the idiots who didn't want the law repealed in 2005???? They should be voted out of office when their term is up!!!! Gov. Richardson was not for New Mexico - this was to his advantage!!!!

Whether you call them undocumented workers, illegal aliens, etc. the main thing is that these people broke our laws and entered this country illegally.

You do not reward those breaking the law with a drivers license, you deport them.

Not all illegals are bad people, many are just trying to find a better life for themselves. We do have laws though and they need to enter the country legally.

Good for Martinez. I hope this passes with flying colors.

A new law has been proposed that would ban local and state police from going after illegal immigrants, unless they are accused of a crime other than being in the country illegally.

The bill, sponsored by democratic State Senator Richard Martinez of Espanola, makes an exception for police officers who spot someone trying to sneak across the Mexican border.

But once an illegal makes it all the way to Espanola it's OK!

Really weird about being able to get a DL in NM they ask for a waterbill for one ID and give you an avadavit to fill out for the other one(ID) that`s if they like you.If they don`t they make you give SS# even though your not supposed to use them for ID.For some reason they didn`t like my wife and I had to find her birth certificate, our marrage license, her SS# car registration, and the reason was that her middle initial on her ss#was different after getting married and going to college and she never changed it with SS people because it was so much trouble. And I really hate to say this but I really think it`s true that it has to do with what color your skin is,and if it matches the color of skin of the person behind the window. The reason I think this is because we asked for an affadavit and we were refused, and people who hardley spoke english got them.

Isn't it amusing that one has to give more info to get a library card or rent a movie than it does to get a drivers license or to vote in NM?

How do you figure? If Arizona is targeting folks for police harrassment simply for "looking Hispanic" and New Mexico is allowing folks with no proper ID to get their driver's licenses I would call those opposite extremes.

I sent the following e-mail to Senator Richard Martinez of Espanola
[email protected]

Just exactly what is it you don't understand about the word "ILLEGAL"???????

Why are all "ILLEGALS" who happen to stumble into New Mexico entitled to benefits and services that LEGAL New Mexico resident are not permitted to receive? Yet we are the ones paying the taxes.

I suspect you introduced this bill solely to counteract and undermine Governor Martinez's initiative to
revoke all New Mexico drivers licenses that have been issued to "ILLEGALS" since 2003.

Your bill should more appropriately be titled NON-ENFORCEMENT OF FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS

In my opinion, you Democrats are a pathetic bunch of sore losers and sanctimonious hypocrites.

Taxpayer, I absolutely agree with you!

What is it about "illegal" that some people don't understand? Or is it that they "won't?"

The thinking her is that they then can obtain insurance. How dumb and stupid. under that guise, I guess the ones who wish to murder can buy a gun even if they are in prison so long as they buy insurance. I though gov richardson was about 11 bricks short of a dozen now I know he was. He was probably an anchor and was protecting his parents and grand parents.
He was/is a disgrace to America and the democrat party, the problem with America is we have but two parties and all must choose one or the other.

Here is something else funny, got my DL in the mail and it,s barely regognizable as me, I look like one of the coneheads and my signature is squished down,I don`t know if it`s a feature or a mistake. And all the little old ladys claimed to weigh 110 and have brown hair, and they all weighed 150 and had grey hair.

The Independents albeit not very well organized offers a third solution to the voters. Older Americans are seeing the value of the Indep candidates since they are not confined by a party's platform. They have the ability to better navigate party lines within Congress and represent the voters. The last we saw polling numbers of voters following the 2010 mid-term elections which returned these numbers: Indep 34%, Dems 33%, and Repubs 32%. It is believed that the Indep movement is growing and for good reason - they are much less abrasive than the tea partiers. The tea party is actually driving people from the Repub party to the Indeps (i.e., Bernie Sanders I-VT and me). I am tired of the abrasive and downright untruthful rhetoric of the TP'ers (e.g., there are NO death panels and no one is going to kill Grandma). I much prefer to hear truth in reporting, factual data and healthy debate over the points of all government objectives and stop stuffing a party's platform down my throat (e.g., we don't need regulations, etc.). Yes we do because of corporate greed that has hurt the average American (e.g., unrealistic CEO bonuses, jobs shipped overseas, holding corporate profit margins to the detriment of the American worker, etc.). We need to demand that our politicians be truthful and respectful because they represent us (you and me) and not themselves personally.

We should seek them out and not wait for them to break another law before we can ask them if they have any papers allowing them to be here. This is not being a racist it is being aware of the problem and trying to do something about it.
I do not have a problem with people from across the southern border or any border for that matter. but we can not keep our eyes closed any longer. It is a drain on our school, legal, health care, crime, and even to our self defence.
WE MUST TAKE A STAND either we are a nation of laws or not. If the answer is no then the gov should get out of the way and we will do it our selves.

You guys are the ultimate solution for the NM - Mexico border problems. You could always shot first and ask permission later. Would you clean up Espanola first..?

Wrong the ultimate solution is for the Fed. Gov. to do their job and protect us from what is happening on our southern borders.
However as I said in a different sight, that if I lived on the border next to the farmer who was killed and the law would not or could not protect me I would do it my self.
WE seem to have plenty to send to every country in the world to protect their borders, MY QUESTION IS how come we don't have enough to protect our own?
AND WHY the bleeding hearts of this world think it is wrong to defend your self when the Gov. fails to do so?
WE send maybe 10,000. times as much money to countries who don't even like us not to mention that some take that money and support people who want to blow us up. Our money to buy bombs to blow us up to countries who hate us!!! This makes no sense at all and we bi-ch because some one wants to protect himself because our Gov. wont.
SO MY ANSWER IS YES I WOULD SHOOT FIRST! ONLY I WOULD NOT ASK ANY QUESTIONS,AND I WOULD LEAVE THEM WHERE THEY FELL FOR THE NEXT BUNCK TO SEE.
