The Somali is obviously preaching, good for him, but i dont think he needs to drag islam down in the process. Preach the benefits of your own religion, and if you manage to convince someone, that is good.

By and large, i agree with Tayyabs moderate views. Just want to comment on the following.

To Tayyab and to all the others who keep saying islam is peaceful, try reading the first few posts again. islam will be defined for all non-muslims, by its adherents, not by its holy book. As long as the muslims continue to be a force for destruction, discontent, anger and terrorism, that is what people will link the religion with.

Quoting the book will not help. You may be right that it is a religion of peace, but it does not matter until you convince the terror creating muslim population to agree on that view.

Are there lines or instances in the quran to support some posters view that it is a violent relgion. Yes. Are there similar lines in the bible to support christian violence. Yes. Thats not the point. The point is the action, and it is FACT that most violent actions, countries, terrorism and problems are in islamic countries TODAY. TODAY in caps because you cannot keep harping that christians and jews did xyz in the past. Yes they did, the crusades, the inquisition, world war. But thats in the PAST. We need to solve islams problems TODAY.

Stop burying your heads, step out and educate our people if you believe in peace. There is much more to life than just waiting for death and the afterlife, and trying to convert people till you get there. Be a good person, enjoy yourself, read your scriptures (whatever they may be) and live in peace.

When there are flaws, accept them, and work for ways to change them. And for heavens sakes, dont feed the trolls on topix, they come from all countries and all religions.

That is complete hogwash. They may have razed some, but to equate that with the actions in the article is deceptive. There is a very clear american policy, with serious repercussions. If there was any mass or wanton razing of holy places, it would be reported and you would be sure that there would be action taken. Its a fact, it has nothing to do with christian/muslim, it is the way that they work. They have a respect for laws and ideals. That is evident and recognized, and partly the reason why so many god fearing islamic people leave their own country and head for that place.

And finally, someone mentioned the Danish cartoons. Were they in bad taste? yes. Still there was no justification for the violence that took place all around the world in response to this. The sad thing is that in the west this sort of mockery or trivialization of religious figures is pretty common. Most people are not even offended anymore. When they are they raise a complaint with the ethical bodies or launch a placard protest. They do not burn shops and attack random people like they did here in pakistan. Even when they do, the difference is in the scale. Do you know that we wasted 2 days when this happened here in pakistan? why because shops were closed and strikes were launched, and people were attacked if they didnt comply.

If you want the world to look at us with respect, you have to earn that respect. Im afraid that islamic nations have not done that.
