To force the “legal” US citizen to speak a new language is Discrimination based on language.
We need new laws created to protect the English speaking citizens of the USA from any discrimination (like employment, housing, etc.)
Amnesty should only be given if the parties are willing to learn English and help change their family members coming over or who are already here.
Petition to NOT modify our native language to include any foreign language
Petition for stronger laws requiring all residents & citizens to learn & speak English in order to live & work in the USA.
Petition for new laws protecting US citizens who are refused employment in the USA simply because they do not speak a foreign language.
Petition for new laws protecting the English speaking citizens of the USA from any form of discrimination (employment, housing, etc.).

Funny that you say, "English as our only native language," when we all know (accept you of course) that before colonialization of the United States the "native language" of this Country were those 100+ languages spoken among the Native Americans who were forced to learn the NON-NATIVE English language, that is if they survived.

that's so stupid. English is the language of America, therefore everyone who sets foot on American soil has to speak english. I never understood why people didn't like immigrants in their countries, but when I went to overseas, having learnt a foreign language especially, I was shocked at how foreigners were refusing to speak the local language and therefore refusing to intergrate. It is a shame that you go through something like that and this situation must be dealt with immediately.

The person you are attempting to scold made reference to the USA. So any reference made to official or native language specific to the USA would, for reasons obvious to everyone, except you apparently, clearly be regarding the language of the United States of America. No one living in this country needs to be reminded of the natives who resided here prior to the European invasion. We all get that. WOW, how could you guys say that, just the other day i saw a poor old women in the store _trying_ to speak english the cashier just yelled at her and insulted her saying to go get some english classes then come back..... IS this whAT america is turning into? BS - I am not an immigrant - I was born here – legally – to legal U.S citizens. The fact that my ancestors may have migrated here has absolutely no bearing on my status as a legal citizen of the United States of America. In fact, most nations are “nations of immigrants”. There are very few nations in this world whose populations are truly indigenous to the area in which they now live.

And because I realized at a young age what a wonderful country I was living in, I decided to give something back in return by joining the military. So don't tell me I have to deal with illegally aliens coming here and being catered to and you telling me I have to deal with it.

If you know so much more than us 30-40 year olds, why don't you answer this - Whatever happened to “E Pluribus Unum”?–“From Many, One”– It is included in the great seal of the United States and to me represents more than anything what America is supposed to be about. One culture, one language, one nation – to galvanize us all as Americans. Not Mexican-Americans, or African-Americans, or Irish-Americans – but as Americans; period! A single nation and a single people.

Lastly, as a 20 year military veteran, I want to conclude by saying this. Millions of Americans have served this nation in its defense. Hundreds of thousands of those men and women have given the ultimate sacrifice and died to preserve the freedoms that so many of us citizens take for granted. Granting citizenship to, or in a lesser sense simply catering to, illegal aliens whose first act in coming here was to break our laws by illegally crossing our borders completely and totally cheapens the meaning of our constitution and the lives that have been lost over the years to preserve it.

If I may chime in...All four of my grandparents came from other countries. The first thing they did was to get jobs and get enrolled in English classes. There were no signs in the grocery stores in Italian, Polish, German... If my grandparents could do it, the immigrants today can do it. Remember, it was HARDER back then, there were no real social programs...you either worked or you starved. STILL, they made time to go to English classes in between working multiple jobs. Because they CARED, they wanted to BECOME Americans.

There may be other points we can compromise on, but not this. NEVER.

Can YOU imagine moving to Italy and not learning Italian??? How could you ever really become part of society!? That's insanity. If somebody comes here and has no intention of learning English, that tells me that are only here to suck off the teat, and I've seen enough of that!(Cough cough...Deroit...cough...cough )

It should be a good idea to learn english, but being forced to do so is crazy. My father, a mexican, sapeaks english but prefers the spanish language and speaks it most often. But when a situation comes up he speaks english then he goes back to spanish. He learned two languages, why dont americans. Spanish was in the southwest way before english speakers were here. How about both sides learn both languages
