I don't know what a gun license costs in the USA, but if you had to wait a month before it was issued and the gun licence fee was $500.00, this must reduce gun numbers. Another suggestion is: The gun licence should be issued to a specific home address and that address can have just one main permit holder (the property owner or main tenant only), and all sub-holders from him, family members, have to be vouched for and referenced by 2 individuals and either a doctor or Police Officer who knows the person or family well. An issue I have never seen discussed is:

Before issuing a gun licence to anyone do US authorities investigate 'who else lives in that house, and have they ever committed a gun crime, or been involved with crimes of violence in which a weapon was used. It appears to me if on average 3.5 people live in each home then common sense suggest that 3.5 people have access to guns in that home and are able to access them. This tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut has left the world stunned, it never appears to cross American citizens mind how well liked and loved they are worldwide and in places like the British Isles and Ireland we hear about these events just has fast as they do and hold hands and weep with you. God Bless America and all those who mourn today.

PS: I'm well aware You cannot deal with criminal minded individuals exchanging or selling guns (that issues lost) but you can restrict the inflow of new guns entering the market, you know not everyone knows a criminal gun seller, knows how to or wants to consort with criminals, and it's reducing the guns in households who may be unfortunate enough to have a borderline loon residing there that's the goal. Whilst I'm writing this I'm aware of, and trying to conjure up the name of the kid in the Red Wig (the Joker) who shot up the cinema, he's my idea of a number 1 gun control target. If my suggestions applied to him maybe he would have been deterred AND if we can DETER 90%, that for me is a bigger step for mankind than walking on the moon.

Tim McVeigh didn't use a gun. A truck bomb like that in Newtown, CT. would've killed a lot more of those children and adults.
So ya, let's all get warm and fuzzy over gun control.

That kid said that just like the famous "let's roll" quote.
This crap is made up by the media.
If you weren't there, how the f*ck do you know what was said or done?
It's all medai hype, and you're stupid enough to buy into it.
Get a real life.
Not everyone is a "hero", and people die.
So it goes.

A car or truck loaded with gasoline, ammonium nitrate, etc., could've been used just as easily, and caused more death and destruction.
Do you suggest a ban on vehicles, fuel, etc.
When are you morons going to realize that the world is filled with evil people who do evil things?
There is no such thing as a "safe haven", so grow up.

BoneHEAD,

Please learn to sit at the back of the class and shut up - so the better educated pupils are not bothered by your foul, and loathsome remarks. This is my latest thoughts on this tragedy,

I have just received a message from a pro-gun lobbyist stating "The Constitution Rules The USA", this is only part-correct, firstly: The people of the USA rule The USA and their wishes need to be taken into account, considered and respected, and, if need be, when a conflict occurs between the Peoples demands and wishes then the Constitution is normally amended. For this reason the Constitution has been amended 17 times, and a total of 27 times if you include the Bill of Rights.

I seem to recall that the Constitution states that: The People have the right to *protection* from a armed Militia, meaning an organised State or Government body, it makes no mention that *individual* citizens had the right to bear arms, or to keep and stockpile them.

Please understand that this tragedy is Page 1 news throughout the Western World, its a non-stop news item In the British Isles, and on every Brit TV station, Britain has a population of 75 million people who share your grief and who wholeheartedly agree with the President that this US gun madness must stop. The President said words to the effect of "Are we helpless to put a stop to this?, then tonight we had the Mayor of NY Mr Michael Bloomberg making similar comments and adding "that to Americas shame it is the only nation in the western world who has this gun culture".

America is the leader of the western world countries, America is the Head Nation amongst the English speaking * family of nations* and to be frank it does not look good politics or diplomacy for the USA not to take up the torch to protect it's citizens from gun crime. Today the first school boy Noah Pozner was buried, let him and his school friends, alive or dead, be elected to carry the gun control torch.

I have to admit one thing that has come out of all this schit.. The right is a bunch of morons that care nothing about anyone else but themelves and their little guns.... Sorry all you John Wayne types, this country is changing and guns are out...get used to it...

When I hear people calling into a AM radio station and complaining their little football game with those loser Cardinals was interupted by the Presidents speech about those little kids that died, that just shows what kind of low life scum we're talking about. Even the radio personality couldn't believe what he was hearing.. Are you right wing prycks that shallow.. You must be... No wonder the world hates republicans....

The Newtown School Deaths really have shocked Britain, All schools are looking at security meausres. In Canada and the USA all schools this week are carrying out lock down drills. My granddaughter came home from school and told her mum they had learnt how to sit quiet under their desks and not speak and mustn't look out or come out until the teacher said it was okay.

Can you imagine a chipboard childs desk to keep military style bullets out - no way, her mother penned a letter of protest to the local paper. We, all of us need to thank the Connecticut State Police, the local police and the Firemen for all wading in, so lets get the guns off the street and tell the NRA National Rifle Association to bugger off, tell them you have NO RIGHT to bribe Senators to vote for you, or abstain from voting for anti-gun measures at your request and behest. The NRA is not going to interfere with any children's safety anywhere / anymore!!

I don't think England has anything to worry about. It would take too long time to beat school children to death with a bag of fish and chips.

Margaret,

Because the United People of the British Isles (Please refer to us as the Mother Country if you will)(and because) we have decided to defend America (The American Colonies)at all costs, to pay any price and to suffer any pain, we have made ourselves the target for extremists. I read a report somewhere which said our Security Services have 221 individuals under surveillance. That is more than the FBI had listed in the 1920 as Mafia crime figures,

Need I tell you the cost is being looked at closely, which means give me anymore of your lip- and I'll ask the British Governnment to withdraw the San Atonio Defence budget for next year. So there !!!

Poor delusional Bob, you "mother country" as you refer to it, is in actuality the shit-house for the rest of the world. In fact that inbred, cow of a queen you have, is considering changing the name of London to "New Somalia" to better reflect the racial makeup of the city.

Hi Crassus, did you get the book I wrote for you, and sent you Federal Express,

"It was a dark and windy night when the stranger in Green Bay, Wisconsin, knocked on the door of the Castle Crassus,", in the absence of Igor the caller's knock was answered by Maggie, who said to him "Come in, remove your trousers, bend over, the Masters awaiting you .........."

Lots of love and best wishes to all, on this Xmas day 2012, Bob.

Will that give G.B. enough money to pay us back for world war II ?

Kevin,(Q) Will that give G.B. enough money to pay you all back for World War II ?

Kevin: "It won''t - but I assure you we have wrote the debt off, and the USA in not invited or expected `to repay it. Remember Pearl Harbour, 7 December 1941, this attack on the British Colony Naval Base in Hawai, came as a profound shock to the British people and led directly to the British entry into World War II Pacific War theater.

The following day (December 8), the British Parliament declared war on Japan. The British Navy's Atlantic Naval Patrol was extended into the Pacific and reciprocated by sinking all six Japanese Aircraft carriers that had led the attack on Peal Harbour. Our Prime Minister Winston Churchill declared that we will defend our USA territories including New York, 5th Avenue, and MGM, to the last.

And if you look up the history of Los Alamos you will ascertain that a very high percentage of the bomb makers were British, SEE>

By 1940, British scientists believed a uranium bomb was feasible. This resulted in the establishment of the MAUD Committee. The MAUD Committee completed a pair of reports in the Summer of 1941 entitled "Use of Uranium for a Bomb" and "Use of Uranium as a Source of Power." Albert Einsteinís letter to President Roosevelt resulted only in the establishment of a basic reactor research program. In late 1940, the British sent a group to the US to offer information on the United Kingdom's atomic project.

The British contingent, headed by Sir Henry Tizard and Professor J.D. Cockcroft, discovered the US had a similar atomic program, though it was not as well-organized. The visit laid the groundwork for future cooperation between the two nations. In addition their valuable technical contributions, the British also offered many intangibles to the project. The diverse array of scientists - to Germans, Poles, and Brits - gave the project a larger sense of purpose. Even more critical, the European contingent offered new insights from a different perspective. The international nature of scientific research, so crucial to the field of physics in particular, had been desperately lacking since war broke out. The arrival of the British hearkened back to an era of excitement and free exchange. This indispensable contribution, so often overlooked, will remain the lasting legacy of the British Mission.
