1 1. It talks about the "steady flow of illegal Mexican immigrants into Arizona." There are all nationalities of illegal aliens flowing into our state, not just Mexicans. A recent article in a local newspaper said there's even a heirarchy of workers based on national origin. Illegal Mexicans tend to take the higher-paying roofer jobs, while unskilled Salvadorans are stuck doing landscaping. It's not just Mexicans who come here illegally. 2. "Arpaio dispatches teams of sheriff's deputies into Hispanic communities where they stop people and arrest anyone who cannot prove he or she is a legal U.S. resident." This language sounds like the "immigrant roundup" phrase that some of the open borders folks are using. Actually, the Sheriff sets up Saturated Patrols where Deputies and Posse members look for traffic violations or equipment problems that establish Probable Cause to pull over the driver. Deputies are specially trained in immigration law so they can recognize illegal aliens. Arizona's anti-human-smuggling law makes the smugglers equally guilty with those they smuggle, so all illegals go to jail. Those who plead guilty in court to violating the law are given a short jail sentence and turned over to the Border Patrol for deportation. Those who plead innocent in court to violating the law are usually convicted anyway, after which they are given a LONGER jail sentence and are STILL turned over to the Border Patrol for deportation. That's how it works. 3. "But Mary Rose Wilcox, a county supervisor and longtime Hispanic activist says, "All he is doing is going after everybody with a brown face. There's no doubt in my mind that this is racial profiling. None."" In 2004, Mary Rose Wilcox and her husband illegally demolished a 105-year-old home that was on the City of Phoenix's historic preservation list. It was next door to their Mexican restaurant, El Portal. They managed to avoid prosecution for the crime by paying a settlement, including a $10,000 donation to the Phoenix Historic Preservation Office. She "is a fourth generation Arizona native from a pioneer Mexican-American family." She is an open-borders advocate, and her lie about racial profiling is to be expected. |

2 5. "The mayor said Arpaio's tactics have not reduced crime in the region or curbed illegal immigration. Instead, Gordon says the sheriff has soured community relations and sparked fear among Hispanic citizens and immigrants." Gordon says this like it's a bad thing. Actually, it's not. One of his justifications for allowing the illegals to live among us without penalties is that if we start arresting and deporting them, the illegals who remain will not report crimes to the police for fear of being deported themselves. But we would need to determine first how many crimes these illegals report in the first place. After all, they committed a crime when they entered the country illegally, so why would they bother to become law-abiding now? We need to cut the illegals off from community relations and spark the fear of arrest in them. That has proven to be an incentive for self-deportation. In other words, the Sheriff's policies work. This article is very disappointing, since it comes from an alleged reputable news source. But I suppose we can't expect much from an organization who refuses to use the word "terrorists" when referring to the 9/11 hijackers. |

1 Enforcing immigration laws is good. The Sheriff is enforcing Arizona state law which makes it a crime to smuggle illegals into the country. The Reuters article makes it sound like his people are using racial profiling to arrest people, but they aren't. |

2 Are there ANY good infommercials? Probably not. Therefore, Ricochet Arpaio sticks to the script. |
