I just wish you all the best. You have to trust what Docs are telling... but take it all.... process it....and get many opinions.

May God bless you and keep you safe.

Why can't they find a cure for this? Why are there not enough studies? How often does one have to do treatments and suffer? I have been living with RSD for 9 years and I am only 28. Its horrible and effects my social life, relationships, and work. Unfortunately the coma treatment is not a cute but is only another procedure to help pain for some and help make it stop for a long period of time. The problem being is who has the money to deal with this treatment? Someone has to help... someone has to help us who suffer and find a cure for this dibilitating disease or teach people about it and make them aware that we are not faking amount of pain it causes. I wish the best for her and hope this helps in a recovery process.

I have been suffering with RSD for almost 10 years now. It began as a result of being ran over by a car while working. I too have researched and met with a doctor in PA about the ketamine treatment. I have also spoke with rsd patients that have had the treatments and say that they have seen a great reduction in pain. Unfortunately all my treatments have to be approved by workers comp so I can not do the ketamine I just keep on suffering!! Good luck with your treatment.

I was diagnosed with RSD in my right extremities after a surgical procedure in 2005. Since then, I have had flown to Denver, CO for 4 operations & have had 2 stimulators implanted. I have wires that start at the base of my skull and run down my back, under my arm and into my chest area. The days of living a normal life are gone. Simple tasks such as dressing, cutting your steak at dinner now require assistance. The days of a clear head are now gone due to the amount of pain medications & controlled substances I take daily along with the stimulators makes the pain scale on most days a 8 instead of a 10. Not much is known about RSD and unless you feel the pain she feels every moment of every day as I and many others with RSD, you can only imagine. I hope Melissa has a strong supportive family as I have been blessed with and I hope the treatment is beneficial for her.

My prayers are with you... My daughter, 16YOA has been suffering with this for several years after a School Bus ran into our car. The teachers, Asst. principal & students at SCHOOL do not believe her pain because she is not "handicap" and in a wheelchair. Section 504 is not taken seriously - Her pain brings her to tears and she has missed so much school from it. PT, Tems, pain pills - NOTHING HELPS. WE know the pain is real - now is it time for ALL to know!

Has anyone here seen or been treated by Dr. Shwarztman (Phila)
I see him on the 30th. I also have a Small Fibor Nueropathy with RSD. In lower extrementies. I know how bad the pain can be. But those who have it also know most people dont understand. One of the problems for myself at least, is that there are times that I can walk and do normal daily activities, and other times.. The pain is so severe..well Ya'll know the rest.
I hope the Treatment works.

Hey Shooter.....yes I consulted Dr. Swartzmann in Philly. He can very highly recommended, I was diagnosed with RSD throughout my entire body. He explained the ketamine treatment and I was all for it but unfortunately like a stated above I am a workers comp case and can only get treatment that they approve. I have also spoke with patients that have been treated by him and they are feeling a great deal of pain relief from the ketamine treatment. So far I have had multiple nerve blocks and a spinal cord stimulator implant all to no avail. The only treatment I get now are duragesic patches, fentora & lyrica - not much of a life!!! Hope some day we can all get some help!!

Like several others on this post, I have RSD and have attempts to seek a cure being blocked by my Workers Comp Insurance Company (Sedgewick Ins is a bunch of B**tards!!) Maybe the fix is in leaning on the PA (or your states) Workers Comp Board to allow this as a treatment! I bet if enough people ask, they will take it under consideration. the only other hope is that all the people in charge of denying our claims and their lawyers get the disease themselves and see that we are not faking the pain. I don't know what else I can do and every day wake up wondering if today is the day that the pain overtakes me and I choose to discontinue living.

I hate to say this but i think the main problem here is,is that a cure is not profitable enough for big pharma.

A Comma, shutting down ones neverous system will put anyone out of physical pain..The individual is not aware of the pain because he or she is mentally dead for that period of time. Nothing really changes for the individual, because he or she wake up, at the exact point in time the pain ceased, therefore it never happened.

I to have been diagnosed with RSD I have been blessed to be able to see Dr Robert Swartzman in Phila. I am going for my final medical clearance on the 15th of April for ketamine treatment. I have only been dealing with this since March of 2007. I am so impressed with all those who have commented that they have been living with this pain for such long periods of time. You are very strong people.
My prayers for you Mellisa and all who are suffering through this as well.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support and truly feel sympathy for anyone and everyone struggling with RSD. I completely understand what you are going through and i really think its time someone do something about the doctors and hospitals that really dont know much about this torturing disease. I really hope to do alot more to spread awareness to everyone throughout the world so that people start to know how bad we actually suffer from this and what we go through to seek treatment. Any one who would like to reach me at anytime for anything my email is [email protected] .
