I have a 3yr old saddle bred. Hiftlock joint is swollen and he has been limping for a couple of days. What can I do?

I hope your horse is better by now but for the next time it happens, here is what I would do. First of all, determine HOW the injury occured. If calling a vet is out of the question, place the horse in an appropriately sized stall and let it rest. Give it Butte or horse asperin and perhaps sweat the swelling with a Fura-Zone wrap. Injuries to legs take a long time to heal so don't be impatient. Don't ride the horse. Don't put it out where it can run around and reinjure the leg. Treat the injury like you would treat an injury to your own leg: rest, pain relievers and TLC.

If you can find someone who does Reiki for animals, it wouldn't hurt to ask them to stop by and give your horse some healing energy.(Or take a course and learn how to do it yourself.) We recently had a horse at our stable recover from a swelling injury to her neck and jaw in two days under a Reiki Master's care. It was unbelievable and I'm not particularly a believer but I know what I saw and I admit I was amazed.
Good luck!
