Me and My Husband adore foxes. Our dream is to own one.I have read all the comments on this site and I am so dissapointed, becouse we live in a small one bedrum appartment in brooklyn and the way it looks foxes need a lot of roaming space.
Is there a way to raise a fox as pet?

Here is what you really want - a fox-like dog that needs a good home! How cute is this?

If the wrong dog came up, try this link that should show 3 dogs. You'll see the "fox" right away.

Wow so many people that love foxes. I bought an artic fox last night for my birthday. It was a big mistake, because I dont have what it takes to raise it in a healthy environment. I am keeping it in the house right now. its a baby and is deathly afraid. I paid 300 dollars but I cannot keep him I would at least like to get my money back but I really want him to go to a really good home. I think he is illegal where I live and do not want him taken from me and destroyed. He is the most beautiful creature I have ever laid my eyes on. I was very foolish to buy him without knowing what I was getting into. If anyone has a really good home for him to go to please email me at [email protected]

Ok so not that anyone cares but I thought I'd put my two cents in... I don't know about other states, but in California Foxes are illegal to own as "pets". They are not a domestic animal, & therefore have many needs that most people are not prepared to provide. However, many people I know own ferrets even though they are illegal, & they make wonderfull pets. It's just really important to educate yourself about what you're getting into, & realize, while the little baby fox is cute, it's not a puppy. It's going to grow up into a wild animal that needs a country atmosphere to live in, not some appartment. Just think about what would make the animal happy, not you. Happy pet fox hunting.

you are idiots. just because something is cute doesnt mean you should have one. retics are cute and i would love to have one but im smart enough to realize it gets 20 ft and is wrong. or a sulcata, they are cute when they are 4 inches long. not as cute at 150lbs.
you should go with rebecca's suggestion and get something made to be a pet- A DOG!!!! they have been domesticated for generations. or better yet a baby. they are cute.
please dont get a fox especially since the only reason it seems you want it is because it is cute. that is never a reason to get something living. i dont want to see that poor fox being mistreated because you are not trained to care for it.

Haters stop being mean to those who are interested in owning a fox. A few people contacted me already and were quite willing to put the effort in to it. I can guide you with the care, but its not easy.
Also if you are young and still depend on your parents, talk to them first about it.
(Those who plan to contact me, sorry if I don't reply right away. But I'll email you back asap.)

I know that researchers in Russia were domesticating foxes to prove that behavior and personality are genetically influenced. They were pretty successful at it.

So much so that they started putting the foxes up for adoption to help fund their research.

I've heard these animals are incredibly sweet and adorable, but I don't know how you would go about getting one of those critters shipped from Russia legally or even if the scientists are still around.

I am currently a student in college, studying to be a Biology major, and I am highly interested in animals. I would love to own a fox in the future too, I find their behavior interesting, and I am also a fan of wolves. Unfortunatelty for myself I don't think I will be able to own one after doing research on the animal. I will most likely be doing alot of taveling, with helping out ecosystems and researching environments, and I simply could not find the time or room for one. So please do some research before purchasing one into your home. From what I have been told they somewhat resemble owning ferrets. I used to own one, and they are great animals, but a tad too smelly.
