Banning dogs is wrong. I have had pits around me my whole life. I am now 29 years old & have never been bitten by any pit. I have 1 now and have 2 little kids in my house a 5 year old & a 2 year old & our pit loves them both.
We also have little dogs & he never tries to hurt them. If you want to ban something ban the people who raise them wrong, who abuse them. Ban the owners who didn't love their dogs & fought them. That's who should be banned, not a dog. Pits are loyal and great pets. I'm not saying that my pit wouldn't bit, I use to have one that if someone tried to hurt me would bite, but he would warn you first and he would lock his jaws when he felt skin against his teeth. He would never lock his jaws on anyone. Then he would whimper and I wopuld give him benadryl to make the swelling go away. But I also use to have a Yorkie who would bite & hurt you if you even pretended to hit me. She would not play at all nor give warning. So if you should ban pits for being mean then you should ban EVERY DOG< PERSON & THING that could cause harm. |

AMEN...banning dogs doesn't work anyway...just makes the situation worse...In Dade they baned Pit bulls in the 80s I believe...in 2002 they estimated that there were still 50,000 pit bulls in the area...laws like these just make it harder to find the people who neglect and fight these wonderful dogs...they become even more underground. Anyways, I'm a pit bull owner...never had a problem with my pit bull...and I would definitely get another one if I had a bigger place. |

Pits are great dogs. Ive never had to worry about any of mine. I now have 13 pits and 4 kids. my kids were very upset when i told them about the ban they would probably never forgive me if I got rid of our dogs. they are like family. they can be very gentle and well behaved dogs. Like all dogs its all about how you raise them. I think this ban is very stupid. This is suppose to be a free country and the fucking goverment does nothing but take that away from us. All of these bullshit laws that they come up with. I cant wait to see whats next. you going to take my kids from me. DON'T BAN MY DOGS THEY ARE PART OF MY FAMILY.

Pit bulls mak wonderful companions. My personal pit bull is the biggest wuss anyone has ever met.
I rescue pit bulls and pit bull mixes and I have NEVER been bitten by a pit bull ever. I have been bitten by a couple of dogs but never a pit bull. I have a "banished" pit bull here. She came to me because her owner found out her town had BSL (she cried & cried having to give me the dog) She is the sweetest dog ever. All she wants to do is play and be goofy. I really wish that folks who were scared of pit bulls would take the time to meet one. They are dogs, just dogs. They are no more dangerous than any other breed. Doxie's (scientifically proven) are the #1 biters followed by Chis. All dogs bite. Pit bulls are very loyal dogs, whose only goal in life is to please their owner. My pit bull is also terrific with children despite the fact we dont have any here. Pit bulls were once called "nanny dogs" becaues of their affection for children. http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.c... - he lives with 3 very young children Anyone who is scared of pit bulls can feel free to email me and I will allow them to meet one of mine! Thankfully, there is a lawsuit that will be heard in December to decide if banning a breed of dog is constitutional (Jville, Lonoke, Beebe & NLR are being sued). I tried to fight the restrictions in LR but lost. HOpefully we will win in December. People also tend to forget that a lot of dogs are incorrectly labeled as pit bull mixes (lab mixes, boxer mixes, exc) |

Pits ... are you kidding me?? I have three pits and an English Bull dog. I also have a two year old daughter. If the pits see you walking towards the baby, they will jump and lick and fight for attention. The Bull however, will take you down! So don't start with me about pits, until you know what you are talking about. Just like a computer is
only as good as the operator, well a pit is just as good as the owner, and a good part of owners are lacking in brain matter. |

I am so tired of hearing how bad Pitts are!!! A Pitt will bite if trained to bite. So will a Shepherd, a Rottie ... or a Miniature Schnauzer for that matter. There are no BAD DOGS ... JUST BAD OWNERS. People get a dog based on what they think looks cute rather than getting a dog based on what they can handle. Or... with Pitts, far too many people have no heart or soul and fight these dogs. I was always a little shy of Pitts, until one found his way into my heart. I have owned dogs since I was a child and I am now 50 years old. I have never owned a more loving dog than this Pitt. "Skippy" wears a smile all of the time. His one dream is to be a "lap dog" and the biggesdt problem I have is keeping him off of my lap. He is friendly wiuth everyone and runs from my Corgi (an aggressive little dog). Ban those who would fight these very special gentle giants. Train the dogs and euthanize the humans without a soul.

I agree whole-heartedly!!! |

Anne, Could you email me at bethmcduffie@live.com with information on beginning a rescue> I live in NC and we have far too many in this area who think it is fine to fight dogs!!! We are on a mission to stop this!!! These...@#%$... will steal a pitt from someone's yard and attempt to fight the dog. When he will not fight, the owner will later find their beloved pet dead beside the road... beaten, bitten, whipped and shot. I may sound a bit disorganized here...as this enrages me ... juyst like the decision to ban PITTS. If dog fighting laws were tougher and enforced, we may not have as many aggressive dogs ... all breeds. An abused dog who has been abandoned is likely to attack out of fear for its life. Too many do not understand this. When my friend and I began looking at starting a rescue for Pitts we were told to contact someone who has donet his and find out the needs for such an endeavor. I have 3 acres of land...so can house a good manydogs, but need to know the special concerns, etc... thanks... |

The thing about dogs, like people, is that certain traits are hereditary. You may treat your dog like Pumpkin Pie and think that s/he will never hurt someone. But if his or her parents, grand-parents, great-grandparents, etc were beaten, abused or used as fighting dogs, those traits are in that dogs genes. It will take generations to get those traits out. I've met some Pits that are sweet as grandmas. And I've met others that are cold-blooded killers. Unless you know the parents and grandparents (and great grandparents) of the Pit, you don't know what you're getting. And no amount of kindness and love can turn a killer into a little lover. So, in effect, there ARE bad dogs. Some are just born that way. Its not their fault of course, but thats just how it goes. By and large, however, its the attitudes and actions of the owner that influence the dogs' behaviors. All the more reason to force Pit and Rotweiler owners (among others) to have to register their dogs. Owning a dog, especially a potentially dangerous one, is a privelage, not a right. As soon as that privelage is abused and that dog mauls a toddler or bites an old lady, that dog needs to be removed from that owner, he or she needs to be penalized heavily and he or she should lose the right to own dogs of any kind. |

1 When those 15 pound Yorkies and Shitzus start killing people, then your ignorant argument might make some sense. But, unfortunately for you, thats just not the case. There's a reason why some types of fighting dogs are banned in some countries: because they are bred for killing. |

i have my lawyer checking into it. i have till friday to get her out of town. i went to my neibors and had them wright letters saying shes a nice dog and they all agreed i even have a letter from my vet. and i have her scheduled for a canine good citizen class. so we will see if all that helps. and see what my lawyer finds. |

i am really sorry you have to go through this. its a pity when media frenzy and ignorance destroys a good animal and takes it away from a decent pet owner such as yourself. i sincerely wish you luck. go to your local mla too. |
||||
mla what does that stand for? i will check into it i just need to know what it means? |
