kook, I don't know why you think a Rotterman is a strange breed to create. According to the Doberman Pinscher entry at wikipedia.com , "(T)he breed is believed to have been created from several different breeds of dogs that had the characteristics that Dobermann (the original breeder) was looking for, including the German Pinscher, the Beauceron, the Rottweiler, the Thuringian Sylvan Dog, the black Greyhound, the Great Dane, the Weimaraner, the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Manchester Terrier and the Old German Shepherd Dog. The exact ratios of mixing, and even the exact breeds that were used, remain uncertain to this day, although many experts believe that the Doberman Pinscher is a combination of at least four of these breeds." I myself have a "Rotterman", and I assure you it makes a wonderful pet, sensitive and loyal to me and protective of my family. I am here at this site to locate another such dog and will monitor postings in hopes of finding another.

A Rotterman is a "hybrid" or "designer" breed (a fancy name for a mutt) such as the golden doodle. It is created from the breeding of a full blooded rottweiler and a full blooded Doberman. Yes, it is a strange breed to create since the Doberman has a great deal of Rottie in it. You only have to look at one to tell this.

what is so wrong with mutts? they are just like any other dog. sure they are a lot of dogs in shelters that die everyday but most people are allergic to those and hybrid dogs can be designed to be hypoallergenic.
What is wrong with mutts???? NOTHING!!!! My American Bulldog-Boxer mix is a mutt (rescued). My German Shepherd-Pitbull is a mutt (also rescued). My third dog, a female Pitbull is a mutt too, she is NOT full Pitbull, we don't know what she is mixed with. I was only stating my opinion about breeding MORE mutts (two breeds, three, four, what difference does it make), when there are hundreds and thousands of dogs dying every day in shelters and pounds. I'm willing to bet my right arm you can find the mix you are looking for in a shelter somewhere if you look hard enough. As for Rotties and Dobes, my mother had a purebred Dobe and my daughter had a purebred Rottie, Awesome awesome dogs!

rottermans are an awsome crossbreed. each purebred dog has "mutt" ancestry somewhere in the line. take the regular doberman for example: just a couple hundred years ago it was created from something like 5 different breeds.

oh sure most breeds are descended from a mix of mongrels. At least the people who were doing it were responsible people who knew what they were doing but these days these mongrels (ie lab/poodle,other lab crosses)that are being bred by people who don't know what they are doing and are only doing it for the money.Other people who are just making up names in their moron heads. Why the heck don't these idiots just say the cross? At least people will know what it is then and don't have to guess

i think mutts r the best types of dogs they live longer than pure breads and they make better pets.

My "rotterman" Bailey, was THE best dog i've seen, very smart and amazing around kids, any kids, they could crawl all over her. We had her for 12 years and recently she died of bone cancer.
I would highly recommend this mix, but you MUST put the time into them for them to be a great pooch, my girl loved attention.
We will eventually get another one, but we are taking some time to travel now.
And yes she was a rescue pup, 3 months old.

I think you misunderstood my comment. I was not putting down mutts, but wondering why someone would be breeding MORE, with so many dogs dying in shelters daily. As for mutts, yes, they are great dogs. Mine are mutts too....American Bulldog-Boxer mix (mutt), German Shepherd-Pitbull mix (mutt) and Pitbull-Bulldog mix (mutt), love'em dearly.

if you read about the breed from that link you'll see that they live around 10 years, the same as both a doberman and rottweiler, think before you talk rottermans are sweet
