there is not a day or night that a eng bulldog sleeps happily with children, or when one dies without ever showing agression. But they are stil dangerous, and will, like all animals, bite if provoked.

i agree emm. i only put this poll on to see who cares about bulldogs. you are right. no dog is born dangerous. it's how you raise them.

wait...are you actually saying that bulldogs are dangerous? they're not, emm. no bulldog is that dangerous. all dogs have their limits, and it's not that breed's fault that people have just overbred them. next time, emm, think about it.

Yes They are, All animals will try to defend themsleves if they perceive a threat. Fck my gerbil is dangerous, hees only got to bite me once and i could end up dead from septicaemia, but i still luv them.

Please, Bulldogs are not dangerous. Maybe some who are raised to fight and eat bloody meat the way pit bulls are, might be dangerous. Hence, its all in the way one raises him/her. Also, the reason I believe Bulldogs are getting a bad rap is once again, the owners fault. Yes, that's right!!!! Not the dog!!!! People want bulldogs to eventually breed. These nimwits are breeding without careful thought and without cause.. A good breeder will not breed all his/her bulldogs but will be selective in the few he or she can breed. A good breeder will also limit registration on the puppies that are just "pet quality." And just b/c you have a litter of bulldog puppies, doesn't mean all of them are fit for breeding like already explained. A responsible breeder will ONLY breed to improve the lines per bulldog standards. I repeat.....Not all bulldogs have the desired qualities. Ordinary Joes with bulldogs are getting together with their neighbors and agreeing to breed without checking the history of the lineage and so forth. This becomes the problem. I think there are too many people who are breeding these dogs and we are seeing the problems that are unfolding, like aggression and poor health. Yes, bulldogs are a high maintenance breed and are born defective in almost every way. However, selectivity in breeding is the key. 5 years ago, I was not hearing how aggressive Bulldogs were. It's kinda like the cocker spaniel in the 1980's....everyone's favorite dog turned bad. Those dogs were biting and showing extreme aggression. Why? Because people were over-breeding them. This is the same scenario for the bulldog, unfortunately. The trick to getting a decent bulldog is to find a breeder that will guarantee his or her dog no matter how old, for any genetic problems that surface. Unfortunately, I don't know too many breeders who will guarantee his or her dogs over the life span of the dog like mine does. It's a buyers beware market when it comes to shopping for America's favorite breed--the English Bulldog, buyer BeWARE!!!!. Again, bulldogs are not dangerous per se, all dogs, every breed, have the potential to kill and cause damage. Bulldogs are one of the best companions of today's breeds.

would anyone like my breeders number? She would disagree that bulldogs are dangerous but would explain why there are great bulldogs out there and not so great bulldogs around.

Miles.

would you please explain to me how a preditory animal with sharp teeth designed to eat flesh and that can carry all number of pathogens, is NOT dangerous?

The fact is they ARE dangerous (like ANY other animal over here a women was killed by a rat, and eventhe earthworm is poteintaily lethal), this does not mean, and nor does it mean they should be destroyed, they quite simply need to be treated with respect.

Thnx. I didn't make the poll and believe that bulldogs are dangerous. It was just to see who cares. I care about my little puppy bulldog like she does to me.

Not ALL dogs are dangerous. Its how you raise them as many of you has said. My eng bull dog and my shar pai(Spelling?) let my 5 yr old son jump and pull all over them and they NEVER once bark, growl, snap, or bite at him. So before you go off and say All dog are dangerous think about it first. Yes dogs have potentinal to be but its all in how you riase them.

never - once - met a "bad english bullie". they were all lovable, laid back dogs.

each and every one were couch potatoes - usually the worst challenge the ones faced i knew, was heat stroke, breathing or heart issues (overweight), or being over medicated by their owners (english bullies don't take well to tranqs).

the only challenge i found to keeping an english bullie, was getting used to the snoring... lol

Couch potatos? You would regret saying that if you saw my pups! They are so strong and believe it or not, hate to sleep for tto long. The two love to run- I got into the Southend Junior School sports team and i was beaten by my pups! Really, it makes me feel so silly! LOL

LOL! enjoy them young while they have energy :-)) when they plump up and slow down with maturity, you'll get your revenge for being beaten lol. the bullies i dealt with became laid back dogs when they matured and really good natured animals, but then they were always well handled - one of my family members bred them too.

My Fiance has 2 bull dogs, one of which attacked and killed a Shitzu she was raised with. I have 2 Maltese and she has already attacked my weaker one. I don't know how to live in a house with the constant threat of murder.. Any suggestions?

I never made this poll to say buldogs are dangerous- I want to see who's so careless and shouldn't be at this forum. Like Dave for example. He hates pit bulls and I don't. English Bulldogs are lovely- I have two. Mine are the future of the breed. Bonnie and Rubee rock!

Before you go and euthanise those dogs, listen. I've lived with dogs. I know about this. The bulldog obviously is putting those dogs their places, and they're disagreeing. Make sure that the bulldog has attention and then it'll calm down about the other members of the pack. Need anymore help, just shout!:)
