Sadly, I see stories about pet abuse nearly every time I check my News Reader. Most recently, a teacher left her two cats to starve to death in her apartment, where they underwent a horrific and painful ordeal before they died. She is currently being charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals - upped from the initial accusation of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

The laws regarding pet abuse aren't really strict enough in many cases, in my opinion. I also believe that some people should be banned from pet ownership, depending on the circumstances.

Still, each case needs to be considered individually. It wouldn't be right to charge a person that neglected vet care because of financial difficulty with the same charge as a person who deliberately tortured a pet.

As I read all these news stories on the internet, I find more and more on animal abuse and neglect. It is overwhelming the amount of cases that happen everyday in this country. Where is the compassion and humanity? We call the human race humane. Not from where I sit. This is not just with animals but with our own species the torture that is inflicted upon the innocent and helpless. One of the problems is the laws are not strong enough and the punishment is way to lax. Maybe we need to go back to the days of an eye for an eye. As for that teacher, I say let her go without food for a month. She'll live, but justice will be served. Thanks for all your posts. Keep them coming!

Norskejente I honestly believe that if there was a human & a freaking squirrel laying in the road you'd be more concerned about the squirrel & as for problem feral cats which you are always banging on about, the only solution is not people like you but pest control

Well let me but it this way, if a person doesn't look both ways when crossing the road, oh well! But a squirrel or other animal doesn't know about the dangers that humans have created. Besides if I help a person get out of the road and unintentionally I break their arm they will sue me and take my home, all my belongings, all my money and future money and then I'd be homeless, and destitute for saving their life. A animal wil be forever grateful. If you think people haven't been sue in assisting others in life threatening you aren't very well informed. No, I'd rather save the squirrel.

All my cats are indoors and have a secure outdoor house. I am a wow with my neighbors as everytime a stray comes along who do you think they call. All strays they call me about are treated medically and adopted. Gee Boozer you sound very familiar?

When I die everything is going to cat rescue societies. The home (to be sold), the rrsp, the Tfsa, etc. humans disgust me.

To many animals are abused. People take their anger and frustration out on the poor helpless animal. They get an animal and then can't or won't take care of it. Then they try to give the poor helpless animal back or throw it out somewhere else. I have seen it happen to many times. It has to stop.
