To Anyone whose cat is not eating and or not drinking in a 24 hr period should take their kitty to a vet asap. This is not normal and indicates the kitty is not well. Cats can drop lb after lb of weight in a very short time. One lb on a 10 lb kitty is like 10 lbs off a 100 lb person and that is dangerous. Whenever something is not right with your pet, not eating, not drinking, urinating too much or too little or not pooing or severe diarrhea is an indication something very seriously wrong is going on with your pet. Do not ask questions here as there may not be a response in time to save your pet. Always call your vet FIRST and do not wait. Waiting can be the difference between life and death and with death you can't change a thing. Bless you all for the compassion you hold for your pets.

I have a 16yr old male and at one time he was up to 18 lbs. He's a long cat so it wasn't an overweight issue but slowly he dropped to 8.5 lbs. He was getting older so I figured like us as we get older he was just losing body mass. It got to where I could feel his bones, made me very nervous..anyway..I had numerous tests done on him and he checked out perfect. I got a second opinion and believe it or not it was his teeth. We had a few teeth in the back removed and he began eating alot better and has slowly began to put some weight back on. I feel terrible he suffered so long with a sore mouth but thankful I kept pursuing the issue and corrected it. Thought I would share because I'm too looking to see how to help him back to a better weight. He's about 10.5 now but I would like too see a few pounds more. Any suggestions for an older cat?

Thank you in advance

First, I want to thank you for being persistent in finding out what your kitty's problem was. No matter what the problem with my cats, my vet always checks the weight and teeth on each visit. Since he obviously had issue there you may want to make sure to check his teeth and any odor that may come from his mouth in the future. Infections can lead to heart failure just like in people. As for your kitty's weight I would not recomend letting him gain to much more weight as it can put a strain on his heart as well. The max should be no more than 12 or 13 lbs. that is a little over but in case he gets sick again he has a little to fall back on. I wouldn't feed him anything extra to put that weight on as it may come back all on it's own. You can give him chicken, low salt ham, roast beef, turkey or fish as treats (all protein), but everything in moderation. You can also add cooked peas or carrots to his food and a little of the water it was cooked in too as this is loaded with vitamins. I feed my 22 cats Blue dry food and friskies pate canned food. Do not feed your kitty any canned food with gravy or sauce as this is just carbs (Loads of sugar) and can send your cat into food induced diabetes. Always monitor your cats behavior ie, food and water intake, poo and urine or if they sleep too much or vomiting. Any sign that something is amiss and does not change within 24 hours please get them to a vet asap. I hope this helps and good luck with your kitty.

Hi, so my cat is very skinny and will only eat tuna or chicken. He had a serious problem where his rectum insides came out and they had to stich him back up. The time has came where the stitches came out and everything was good. Then we were In the process of moving and I was feeding him but he was left at my old house until I got my room set up, but I went and fed him everyday. All of a sudden he just stopped eating the cat food. This cat food is pretty proficient and he use to always eat it and doesn't now. I treated him with worms cause he has the runs and been feeding him tuna and not cat food and I know he needs cat food too but won't eat it. Any suggestions to fatten him up. His names Pablo and I hope you guys can help!!!:) thanks
