Taurine is an amino acid and should not be problem as taurine can be produced from non meat sources
I certainly would NOT recommend a vegan diet for male cats the lack of acidity in current veggie food can cause crystals to form in the bladder this is potentially dangerous to male cats. Some years ago my sister started feeding her three cats a vegan diet, the male cat soon developed crystals and was unable to urinate this required expensive emergency veterinary treatment and is now back on regular food. The females continue to be fed a vegan diet currently provided by AMI (Ami Vegan Cat food ) and are doing remarkably well.
There are no real health benefits associated with vegan cat foods Company's who provided them claim not to test on animals, the truth is your pet tests the product. With most meat contained in regular pet foods coming from parts of animals that humans find undesirable and would discard I fail to see the moral benefits. There is no reason why a HIGHLY processed vegan cat food, safe for ALL cats cannot be produced, but is it worth the effort with so many slaughterhouses serving humans?

Don't blame me if your cat kicks its legs in the air and expires but this stuff works for me (F/M cat)

http://www.aminews.co.uk/products/ami_cat.htm

you just pour in a bowl, provide water and that's it.
Me neighbour tried it on his cat and it tried covering it up like a litter tray deposit, so its not for everyone

My three cats, of varying ages, have been on AMI brand cat food for a year, and they love it (better than several other brands including organic cat food and meat-filled ones). I have absolutely no problems and visit the vet regularly just to double check.

A cat is an obligate carnivore. Any half-wit moron who feeds their pet a vegan diet should be convicted of animal cruelty. A cat does not make political choices about its diet like you do so don't force it into an unnatural and dangerous life style. My god you people are stupid. What possible reason could you have for refusing to feed your cat meat? THEY NEED MEAT TO STAY HEALTHY!!! CATS ARE OBLIGATE CARNIVORES.

I see No problem with vegan cat food, cats don't know what they eat and if the food does not involve the suffering of another creature it must be a good thing

A savannah cat WOULD be most intolerant to a vegan diet, have you ever seen a serval eating carrots? You have ignored the plight of thousands of unwanted DOMESTIC cats so the least you can do is feed your serval hybrid the correct diet

No, nothing is. All living things require certain nutrients. Nothing requires meat. The term "obligate carnivores" is an a simplification for the same uneducated people that think humans need to eat animals and plants. I do just fine eating a bunch of pills, TVP, salt, canola oil, and flax. My cat does just fine eating AMI food.

What type of cat i get is my choice actually we are thinking of getting another savannah to keep ours company, isn't it typical of forums for people to try and impose their overzealous views on everyone

You need to do your homework before replying like that. And you are bringing up Animal Cruelty... you just made your comment hypocritical.

KittyCat,
All 3 of my cats have had no problems what so ever of any kind, ages ranging from 4 months-6 years. I take them for a check up annually, as I would anyway and they are in perfect health, except for being overly energetic, mischievous, and happy. I did run out of Ami 2 days ago and am waiting for another shipment. In the mean time I had to use some regular food my mother feeds her cats, meat flavor and all... they hate it, sit by the bowl crying. When I feed them Ami, no joke, it disappears. Whatever they put in regular cat food, I'm pretty sure it's trash and cruelty is feeding them something you wouldn't eat yourself.
