Someone please explain to me why it is PERFECTLY HUMANE for a cat-owner to let their cat roam free to inevitably be ran over by a car, attacked by other cats or animals, lap up antifreeze it finds in a gutter, or rat-poison under someone's steps, freeze or bake to death, or contracts any of the many deadly diseases parasites and infections that cats pass to one another.
But it is NOT okay when someone shoots their cats? Cat-lovers are pointing the finger in the wrong direction. The person in this story who got their cat shot were the cat's OWNERS. This is ABSOLUTELY 100% THEIR OWN FAULT.
Perhaps cat-owners should learn the distinction between being a responsible pet-owner and a criminally irresponsible one. If not, too bad. The rest of the world is not their pet's baby-sitter. A highly destructive INVASIVE-SPECIES pet at that. That's THEIR job to keep them from harm lest they be held criminally responsible for animal-abandonment, animal-abuse, animal-neglect, animal-endangerment, animal-cruelty, and all invasive-species laws on earth.
Let them explain to their child why their criminally irresponsible behavior and values got their cat killed by road-kill, environmental poisons, died a slow death from an animal attack, or was trapped and drowned, or shot by someone who is more respectful and responsible about their natural environment than the criminally irresponsible cat-owner. Maybe in that lesson of explaining the death of their cat to their child that the parent too will grow up into a socially responsible, respectable, and respectful human as well one day. Though I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to ever happen.
Someone needs to check into the health and well-being of their children too. If these people are so irresponsible to let any life in their care get harmed so easily, this does not bode well for the safety and health of their own children. Are they next going to tell their children to go play in traffic and then blame the cars for their children's death? They've already clearly proved that they really don't care how another supposedly-loved life dies while it is under their care. What other lives under their (lack of) care are the next to go?
