Last Place on Earth closing

Last Place on Earth closing

There are 14 comments on the The Gaston Gazette story from Aug 24, 2017, titled Last Place on Earth closing. In it, The Gaston Gazette reports that:

Such has been the case for more than two decades - and in two separate locations - between the Last Place on Earth Pet Store and Jackson's Cafeteria in Gastonia. Adults and kids alike have developed a routine: grab a hearty meal at Jackson's, then walk over to the pet store to play with the precious puppies and kittens or check out the store's selection of birds, snakes, bunnies, chinchillas and other small pets.

I'm incredibly glad this store is closing. It sucks that it is a family business but a store can't ride on that alone. The people running this store are incredibly rude and uninformed. Their animals are poorly taken care of and they widely spew lies just to make sales. This store used to actually be a good store but over the past 10 years it has gone down hill dramatically. I've tried to give this store a chance but I just can't. Fortunately this horrible excuse for a family business will be closing and less animals will become victim to uninformed and misguided pet owners.

It's OK, sometimes we say things just to hurt others and it's nice you apologized

I feel that pet stores support breeders and the world is full of homeless animals. Pets are not gifts!!!

I couldn't agree more! They sold poor little birds and birds are extremely sensitive to almost everything in a home. Teflon, aerosol products ,air freshener are just a few! GLAD ITS CLOSED WILL NOT MISS IT!! I always felt horrible for the poor animals in the store! Don't breed or buy while helpless animals die!!!

I groomed there for about 3 years and was thought by clients to be the best groomer they had. In fact the 1st year I worked there they won "Pet Store of the Year".

I asked repeatedly if Prairie were messy. Repeatedly was told NO. They do make good pets but unless you want to clean up after them at least 3 times a day DO NOT GET ONE.. I could not believe they LIED to me a person who worked with them as a sub contractor groomer.

Icing on the cake was when I had to leave due to disabilities, I read on their web page how they ALWAYS had the best groomers! While I constantly was told by clients I was the best they ever had. I felt SO betrayed.

The animals did not have a chance to build up any kind of immunity as the owner could not stand smells of any kind. As a groomer I was not allowed to use dips for fleas. HA..try build a grooming business with out it. Like cutting off the right arm.

I never knew for sure they were puppy mill pups. However found ot hard to groom a Poodle that looked NOTHING like a poodle, so on and so on.

NEVER BUY A PET FROM ANY PET STORE!!!

I do feel for a few of the employees such as Ken, he was the BEST worker they had and REALLY CARED!

Ken I am sure you know who I am.. Would love to hear from you... Search me on Facebook..
They should have made you MANAGER! Or sold it to you.

I know you never tried to sell the pets because you felt (as I) that what people are saying was true.

You ALWAYS did the work of at least 3 people... You are GOOD PEOPLE!
