Army to shoot live pigs for medical drill
The Army says it's critical to saving the lives of wounded soldiers. Animal-rights activists call the training cruel and outdated.

Maybe a PETA leader will change places with a pig.
BTW. Who did and how did this group get so big and powerful? I basically support their main cause, but they have gotten out of hand. They have been blamed for illegal acts in the past. I see them as nothing as an extortionist group. |

You are correct PETA, they shouldnt shoot pigs. It's far more realistic to shoot PETA members!

Maybe the soldiers will stand up for what's right and refuse to shoot the pigs.

LOL! When I read the article I thought the exact same thing. |

Is this controversial? Maybe its better that a few Iraqis and Americans die in Iraq than a pig. Ridiculous.

Sounds like a good reason to fire up the smoker and have a barbeque!
Whole Hog!!!! |

Every time I hear PETA does something I go out to my ranch and kill a handfull of hogs. I get them processed and use the meat. Why would you not want to save soldiers lives by killing a few pigs. This is what is wrong with america.

This training is absolutely needed. Imagine your 18 and have to go to Iraq without effective training (which is what medics and soldiers get without this training) and watch your friends die because it is the first time you have had to deal with this situation.
Critics- Think about this when you are eating a ham sandwich, hypocrite. Soldiers are the finest people on earth and we deserve to do everything we can for them. By the way, the pigs are under anesthesia. This means they are not experiencing pain. Pigs do not get a medication prior to their slaughter in meat processing plants. |

When I saw "Hawaii" in the news article, I wanted to know if the pigs involved were the feral pigs that are so destructive to the Hawaiian ecosystem. Descended from pigs introduced from elsewhere as food animals, these wild pigs have proliferated to the point of ruining crops and even invading peoples' yards. Hunting them is permitted.
Here are a couple of Internet references about the problem: http://www.rarehawaii.org/pigpage/pigs.htm http://starbulletin.com/2001/05/21/news.story ... Google "Hawaii" and "wild pigs" to find many more. |

Not everyone who is against torturing animals is a hypocrite. We don't all eat bacon. Some of us live by our principles.
You all make me despair for the human race. I read an interview with someone who was trained on one of these animals. He said he shot, repaired and resuscitated the pig for hours. There was a quote -- something like "I shot the **** out of that pig." The pigs are anesthetized, but they do go in and out of anesthesia to some degree over the course of the torture. They are allowed to nearly die, and are brought back -- again and again until they can't be brought back. That is the competition. To keep the pig alive the longest. It is sick. It is unnecessary (there are other options, so the suggestion that not doing this will cost lives is nonsense), and I believe that the underlying purpose of using live pigs is to desensitize the soldiers. If they are numbed to feeling, they will work better as a unit. That is the goal of the military: to quash feeling. |

This "training" is unnecessary and ridiculous, at best. As for the moron who "goes out to the ranch and kills a handful of hogs" because PETA speaks up for those sentient beings who cannot speak for themselves? Grow up ya jerk. You act like you are 10-years old. Oh, and some of us don't eat ham, so no hypocrisy here. This is a human war, leave the animals out of it. They didn't start it, and they should not be tortured because of human ignorance. Do I care about the soldiers? Sure I do. But ya see, I can care about them AND other sentient beings. Sheesh! Some people are really, really stupid!

Bwa ha ha ha! We must stop the militirization of pork!
And, if we got some type of "robot" as this dope appears to infer, the robot rights groups would be lined up trying to save them, too. If this even has a chance of saving one Iraqi or Coaltion soldier, I am for it. |

It is only a matter of time before the pigs arm themselves with AK47s and start carrying pictures of Che Guevera around that say "One World, One Pig". OMG, there is a radio station in town that has the pig as their logo, and he has a red hate just like Che's. A ha!

You truly are a moron. Uneducated people make me laugh. And buddy, I'm laughing really, really hard at you right now. :) |
