Half avoid taxes, get US help, but many not poor

There are 44 comments on the The Kansas City Star story from Sep 18, 2012, titled Half avoid taxes, get US help, but many not poor. In it, The Kansas City Star reports that:

Mitt Romney got the math about right. But when he said 47 percent of Americans pay no income taxes and are "dependent on government," he blurred together half or more of the entire country, ranging from the nation's neediest to its middle class, and even some of its richest families.Forty-six percent of the country's potential taxpayers - some 76 ... The "tax payer funded" roads you speak of are mainly funded by fuel taxes. These taxes are paid by everyone who purchases fuel, including corporations.

As for your "outsourcing" comment: job outsourcing in this country will continue as long as the EPA restrictions, U.S. tax codes, and salaries remain higher than they are overseas.

Another serious part of this problem is the unfair foreign trade agreements that both the Dems and Reps have been hurting us with for decades. Obama, to his credit, has finally began to address this issue in regard to our trade with China (which, is one of the worst "offenders").

However, the cost of shipping foreign made goods across the Pacific, etc, is now beginning to "even things out" a bit. The effect of this is now driving foreign based companies to build and operate manufacturing plants here in the United States (this probably isn't very popular with the citizens of the countries in which these companies are based).

My thoughts of addressing these problems, including the topic of this thread, are:

1. Enact equal trade agreements with all foreign countries, including tariffs (current U.S. "free-trade" agreements almost always heavily favor foreign countries). The U.S. needs "fair trade" rather than the harmful "free trade" agreements that our lobby driven lawmakers have saddled us with (lobbying should be outlawed imo).

2. Sharply reduce public assistance benefits, including "corporate welfare." Nobody should be buying $150+ dollar basketball shoes, etc, etc, while they, or their parent(s) are on public assistance (U.S. based corporations, that incidentally use foreign labor, should not be profiting from the sales of such overpriced consumer goods either). Nor should extremely profitable U.S. based businesses be given tax shelters and/or other forms of "corporate welfare."

3. While we're at it, I would severely reduce and/or halt all U.S. foreign aid (i.e. "foreign welfare"). The U.S. taxpayers should not be forced to handout their tax dollars to any foreign nation. This includes monetary, food, and military aid. These often ungrateful, and "anti-United States" countries can either "make it without us" or do without our endless "no-strings attached" aid.

Thanks for reading.

I don't think fuel taxes fund as much as one thinks or what should be. It's maintenance workers and DEPARTMENTS that drive public budgets on roads and other areas as well. There should be more funding from the actual users of the roads. I've always felt just a penny; one cent a gallon increase-not one percent could fill alot of budgets. I'd even go so far as just add a one penny a business transaction tax, again not one percent. Even if your bill at let's say at Walmart was $500 just one penny. How many millions of transactions are conducted everyday in America. It's basically a sales tax but one penny is easier to swallow than one percent.

Just as the public volunteers to use the goods and services of these corporations the corporations need to realize the cost of voluntarily doing business in a particular area, except for utilities no one is forced to do business in a particular area(there aren't even that many true utilities anymore either). Just as the public is not entitled nor should the corporation.

You get double SS payments, you are taking as much as $2,700 a MONTH in cash from the government in socialist security, and, if your wife did not work and also gets Medicare and so do you, that alone is worth about $6,000 a month because if you had to go and purchase health insurance when you are old, it costs about $3,000 a month per person. You want to repeat the crapola from Fox, that Sandra Fluke getting $20 a month of birth control pills is a big deal, that it costs as much as a double dipper on social security who gets $2,700 a month in cash and double Medicare worth $6,000 a month. What is more?$8,700 per month the old double dipper gets out of SS and Medicare or $20 a month for birth control pills by a lawyer who probably makes $300K a year and pays tons of taxes, when the old person drawing down all that SS and Medicare money maybe made more like $24K a year? Who is costing us a fortune? That would be the old tea party folks.
Your two brain cells are barely enough to keep you from shitting on public sidewalks.

At least Romney has a plan. He is the only one talking about reforming the tax code so that loop holes for corporations are closed!! I am offended by all those who pay no taxes but get a tax refund. Obama has taken money away from Medicare and is using money set aside for the elderly and disabled to pay for Sandra Flukes abortions and birth control !! Government is too big and intrusive. Get government out of my health care. That should be a decision between me and my provider. Government has a spending problem, not a tax problem. I am not Better off, my country is not better off and OBAMA. And his misguided ideas of appeasement and apology has made us less safe not more. He just lies and calls terrorist attacks domestic workplace violence. 9/11/12 was a terrorist attack where they tortured our ambassador. They took RPGS we gave the rebels to over throw ghaddafi and attacked our embassy and ran up their Islamic flag. This has always been seen as a declaration of war.. Their culture only understands and respects strength. More soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan under Obama to date then were ever killed under Bush. He has betrayed Israel and other NATO allies and has strengthened the corrupt UN. He has violated the constitution. If you like what the UN has planned for America vote for OBAMA and you will find yourself living under UN rules without your constitutional protections.. Never has there been a more clear choice. Praying for Mitt Romney to win and voting!
