If you don't like true answers, don't ask the questions.

That is the thing, your hatred towards the Republican party is so great, you cannot see that fact that both, Republicans and Democrats have put the people in the position we are in today.

Expecting Democrats or Republicans to fix a problem that they created is like asking a wolf to guard the hen house.

The people are the ones that can fix the problems. Not the government and not the politicians that are bought off by special interests.

Another aspect of problem is exactly what you demonstrated. Blame Republicans. It is all their fault. Arguing a political party talking point is a fail argument. You are arguing nothing more than DNC talking points, are you a part of Pelosi's staff? Like majority of the people that are too ignorant to see the truth.

The truth that both political parties put us where we are. And this paradigm of left versus right. Which is a false argument.

Agreed. Which is why I think ALL govt spending should immediately cease if they don't approve a debt ceiling increase. That includes social security & military pensions & obviously all govt workers. That is the only way the sheeple will finally demand their representatives whom they voted for actually FIX this problem.

Unfortunately polling shows the GOP will get the larger share of the blame, so that encourages the Dems to take that into their calculations.

This isn't the first time the country has been so polarized. The main difference is the govt is a lot bigger now and has a much greater effect on the average person's lives today than in the past.

Wrong.
I have many Republican friends, and have voted for rRepublicans.

I do not hate, but certainly do reseent the extremist tea-bag group who have taken over the GOP, and are little better than Taliban.

That is not 'political points' We have a completely disfunctional party taking up half the seats of government.

There is no longer a "left.'
The extremists have attacked the right, and driven them from the GOP, and replaced them with their own tea-bag taliban.

Now they attack the center, and term it "left" but it is they who are the extremists.

Some claim to be "Libertarian" but do not understand that libertarian and true conservative are very close, and neither cares about homosexualists nor abortions.

They are Taliban, Satanist phony-Christian Taliban, no better.

An example of this:
They demand that President obama 'negotiate' to get them to do their job.
And what do they offer in excange?
A promise not to throw the world into a Great depression.

They are actually economic terrorists, and all ought be impeached, but they will not dream of impeaching themselves.

The only thing I've EVER done to edit a post is take out a section of a long, boring post and put the word "edited" in there. It saves bandwidth and space and makes the reply easier to read.

If you're saying I've CHANGED people's posts to change their meaning, you're a liar.

The childish comment is typical of you though, Georgia.

nope, change/edit, same thing....you are guilty as charged. You must have gone to the Bill Clinton school of 'depends on what the meaning of is, is?'

libs never accept responsibility for their mistakes...to hear them, they never make any. They made a big one in November, and now they are gonna be sorry....maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday....

You're a liar. End of story, Georgia. I don't "accept responsibility" for your lies, that would be YOUR job.

And like most jobs, it's just one you don't want to DO, innit?:)

Look at the headline-

"What bills would be paid?"

That's the problem, the govt doesn't have the choice to pay certain bill and not pay others.

Bills are paid as they come in, and according to the Treasury any change to that system would require manually changing over ONE MILLIONS lines of computer code.

So while we don't immediately default on our debt, once revenue coming in falls short of the next bill to be paid, it is THAT bill which won't be paid. That may be an interest payment on the debt, a scheduled payment to a defense contractor, or the next batch of social security checks or military pension checks scheduled to go out.

No one knows when it would happen because no one knows exactly how much revenue will come in and when.

Well in 96 during the shut down, Social Security Checks weren't affected, although the agency was forced to send workers home which delayed processing.

The Republicans are fools to go through this again. Some of you seemingly promote a federal shut down because you don't remember very well the consequences.

It's pretty much a guarantee that if by chance there is a delay in processing Social Security and Pension Checks, the Republicans in 2014 will be a distant memory.

Noone knows better than Newt Gingrich.

Those old white southerners depending on social security and medicare can be very unforgiving if they miss a social security check.

Because that was just a shutdown of the govt because they couldn't agree on a budget. IT WAS NOT A DEFAULT ON OUR DEBT.

Though I agree the GOPasaurs will receive the majority of the blame no matter what happens.
