Excellent! Have no intention of signing up for any of this freeloading leftist crap at age 65 (next year). Still self sufficient and intend to fend for myself without socialist handouts until I drop dead. Trouble is, most of these arrogant people today seem to act as if they're going to live forever. Fact is, one day you'll wake up dead and won't even know it.

In the meantime, enjoy each day as a wonderful gift .. which it is. I'm looking forward to maybe living long enough to see this out of control monster of a government collapse into chaos. Give this clown from Kenya who now infests the white house a few more months and the process will greatly accelerate.

Wonder what the geezers will do when the government stooges start handing out obama-script instead of actual money? Then too, will the IRS hit them for income tax on the IOUs? Fools and slaves!

Quahog ..... I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last ..... You're an idiot

Medicare insurance is not a handout it is part of the social security taxes that you've paid all your life.

Please note You have no choice with Part A. As with any Government Program it does not pay for itself. If you look at the numbers, the patient gets more out of it then they paid in.

Are you on crack? "Last generation of Americans" what a frickin joke. I hope he is the last of the IDIOT TRIBE and he nor you will not be missed when gone which wont be soon enough. It is obvious with the racist overtones that he (Quahog) is a racist pig and has a junior HS education at best. You on the other hand seem to be even lower on the food chain, which I didn't think was possible until I saw your post.
Try going to school and learning something then get a soul as you have none and a heart as you are obviously without one.

Disrespect totally intended!!!

If it's going to cost me about the same amount for a supplement as it does to just keep my current health insurance going into retirement versus going on Medicare + supplement, I prefer to just keep the current health insurance. Am I missing something?

Mr. Hog when you approach 65 you will start to recieve literature concerning Medicare and its options. You have paid all of your working life into this Social security programs. This is not a handout by the federal government this a benefit that you have paided into. If you are still working and recieve medical benefits from your employer than you must fill out a form stating that you do not wish to recieve part B. Part A cost nothing and is hospital insurance.Part B is something like $115 bucks depending on your filed income taxes. If you fail to fill out this form than when and if you start to collect Social security retirement benefits you will find that you have been paying for it whether you like it or not.Apparently you have not paid attention and it looks like you are throughly screwed up so its time to get some knowlegable information. You can go online and find all of this on their website. If you snooze you lose.

I'm getting very little money from SS benefits since age 63 check is $546. I'm age 65 now and this month they automatically deducted $99 for Medicare that I didn't enroll to have! SS Check now $466. Is Medicare (any part) Mandatory? Can I OPT out? I don't need it I'm on my husbands Health Ins! Will my SS stay in place and revert back to original amount before medicare was deducted? Or am I just fucked? I know I need to call SS but figured someone here can give me heads up of what to expect :(

Yes if you have a job and medical insurance you can go down to the SS office and sign a waiver. In your case you could do the same thing since your husband insurance covers you. I was surprised about that too. They say nothing is free as it is with social security medical benefits.

I am retired now, paid into Medicare for over 30 years and pay 97.00 per month now plus additional coverage. I do not consider that to be any kind of "free government care". If I were to try to get individual insurance coverage at my age (72) it would cost me a little over $4,000 a month and that would be alittle over half of my retirement income. Glad you can affort that but I can't and neither can the majority of retirees. I can afford my $97.00 a month for Medicare and my $210 a month for supplemental but the other is cost prohibitive. I hope you will post again and tell me how you are going to do this. Seriously, I would love to know. I worked until age 70 and my company sold out and let us all go. I could have moved to Atlanta with the new company but my family is here. How are you doing this?

First of all, it is mandatory that everyone reaching the age of 65, will sign up for Medicare Part A. That is the age when most people will need insurance coverage because of aging illnesses. Scenario, but the truth. A friend of mine's wife worked for a company 42 years. She started at the bottom and worked her way up. When she retired, part of her retirement package was paid up insurance for her and her spouse. Her spouse was 8 years older so when he reached 65, Medicare forced him to sign up for Part A. He argued with Medicare, stating that after 42 years his wife paid into that insurance company, they were now let off the hook because the government pays 80% and his private company will pay 20%. The insurance company was extremely happy because right after he turned 65 he had a major health incident which cost a little over $100,000. Since the government made it mandatory, Medicare, or should I say the Taxpayer, picked up $80,000 and his company picked up $20,000. Since he and his wife are well off, he argued that someone that really needs that insurance should get it and then the taxpayer wouldn't have to pay his bills and let the insurance companies off the hook. He didn't win the arguement and the taxpayer gets stuck again. I know of hundreds of people that are in the same circumstance as my friend. Your elected officials instituted this because they receive money from those companies at election time. What could be saved by not making it mandatory, it could pay for the 35 million that need the insurance.

Does Medicare have to be your primary insurance when you are 65? Or do you have a choice? And are you better off with Medicare.

Quahog, you don't want to pass up on SS. Your children will also receive benefits, and it goes through their college years too. You paid for this all during your working life. Get it before Obama gives the money to the Muslim Brotherhood or pays for drug dealers' cell phones.
