State Legislators enacted laws permitting slavery in their borders also, and that still is not a State responsibility.

States don't have the authority to remove American Citizens from the protections and fundamental rights of the U.S Constitution.

There is a federal interest in whether the state marriages they are now required to legally recognize (the federal government cannot dictate which state recognized marriages they will and will not recognize), regardless of in which state they currently reside in (the federal government cannot enforce state laws), remain legally recognized, regardless of which state they currently live in (state law interferes with federal jurisdiction at this point, guess what?).
