The very first place cuts should be made is in foreign aid, especially to those countries unfriendly towards us.

Not giving money away isn't isolationism.

You're another idiot that makes the presumption you know someone by their screen name.

Wrong type of wootick, try that up here and you'd end up with the match stuck up your little weenie...

yes, not securing our sphere of influence...(yes, i'll wait while you look up what that means...) is isolationism. foreign aid is one of the ways we secure our sphere of influence.

this was covered in 7th grade civics class where we all learned to be citizens. where were you?

When you were in 7th grade I was probably serving my country in the U.S. Navy.

Catch up on current events. In case you haven't noticed, the foreign aid isn't securing our sphere of influence much these days.

Should we support every other nation first and America second—or America first and other nations second?

Rhetorical question.

You've already made it plain that Americans come in second.

Not sure giving away money is the best way to influence people or Countries positively. I would think that getting our own house in order, and providing an example of how best to accomplish things would be better.

I also wouldn't assume everything they teach you in school is correct. At least not the interpretation of it.

The US is broke and has been borrowing 60% of its budget for years. Are any countries sending foreign aid our way, you know the countries we propped up back when we had money ?

The time for borrowing money from the chinese to give to egypt, syria etc as foreign aid needs to stop. Let these countries borrow from the asians directly and get our borrowing debt reduced.

No, you have just made it plain that foreign aid is often in the US's best interest, so that makes it putting us first.

stick to the simple concepts, they seem all you can handle.

Foreign aid is one percent of the federal budget. Politicians salaries is about one tenth of one percent of the federal budget, if that much.

80 percent of the federal budget goes to Social Security, Medicare and to military spending. So if you are older and on socialist security and on government Medicare, I am sure you do not want those things cut. Those are our number one and two largest spending items. If you were in the military, I'm sure you don't want military spending cut either. That is our number three largest spending item.

The Tea Party should have looked at the National Debt Clock when it first started out and looked to see where the money is going, what the largest spending items are.

Number one largest federal spending item - SS.
Number two - Medicare
Number three - military spending.

SS is about $850 billion per year, Medicare is about $800 billion per year, and military spending is about $750 billion per year. Add that up. That's where most of the money goes, and the Tea Party wants NO cuts to any of those things. So right off the bat, you can't cut anything off of 80 percent of federal spending.

Okay, so you have to make cuts to ONLY the other 20 percent of spending. So in order to not cut SS, Medicare or military spending at all, the best you could do is cut up parts of 20 percent of spending. So there's nothing big that can be cut.

And, SS and Medicare have $122 trillion of unfunded liabilities so that when the 80 million baby boomers go onto SS and Medicare in the next 5 years, the costs for SS and Medicare will go way up - it will go up to more like $3 TRILLION per year just to pay out SS and Medicare, and will use up the entire federal budget, and, SS and Medicare spending will at that point end all military spending.

So the real solution to spending cuts is to cut SS and Medicare, make Medicare into vouchers and means test and then phase out SS. Also, they can cut a lot out of welfare programs. And they could shut down half of our 900 military bases around the world and stop being a military empire.

But, if the tea party wants those huge socialist programs, SS and Medicare and no cuts, and they want to be a military empire, that is where all the money is going.

Bill Maher had a clip on his show Friday where he showed part of a documentary that this lady did where she went and asked the Tea Party what do they want to cut? She asked them do they want cuts to SS, Medicare, military spending, and they all say no. At the end of the day, they find out that all they want to cut is foreign aid and politicians' salaries, and that would cut about one percent of spending. They always want to keep all the stuff they get from the government and they want to cut things other people get.

And, they just blindly repeat the stuff about cut spending, the government spends too much, but they never looked into where the money is going. A party that can't be bothered to ever go and look at what the big spending items are is doomed to fail. It's a joke. The truth is the tea party is on VA pensions, on SS, on Medicare, some are on Medicaid and they are just trying to cut other spending so that they can keep their stuff, and, they had no clue that the stuff they get is where most of the money goes, so again, they make a lazy uninformed arguement.

The people getting the most socialism and the ones who say they hate socialism, but end the other guy's socialism, not theirs.
