The number of Americans getting some type of disability check from the federal government is soaring.

Since 2003, there's been a 29% jump in Americans with little or no work experience getting disability payments, according to the Social Security Administration. Over the same time, there's been a 44% increase in disability claims by people formerly in the workplace.

because now to SSA being dummycrap is a disability, too bad the 'real' disabled now have to wait in line behind these lazy moochers gaming the system. first good step would be to jail all the SS ambulance chasing lawyers.

There are people out here who's life goal is to get on disability somehow so they don't have to work. Maybe we should have some kind of test, in this test the disabled get their disability. If there is nothing wrong with you and you are just trying to see if you can game the system then we will disable you and give you your sought after disability.

Then maybe these freeloaders will not be so quick to stand in line in front of the needy.

Amen. The BHO era is a boom for those who are only motivated to live off others...How could we have been so stupid as to fall for BHO?? Very sad.

These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!
Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $20.00 an hour.

A step in the right direction would be to ban ads by lawyers specializing in getting non disabled people disability. I don't mind helping those that really need it but I have seen too many fraudulent cases. Whatever happened to the concept of honest work?

i worked at a print shop for 7 years, until i developed kindey disease and had to begin dialysis, which made me eligible for disability. it never crossed my mind to stop working and i continued going to work, but had to leave work early 3 days per week for my dialysis tretment. my employers hated the fact that i had to leave work early 3 days a week so they began making my life a living hell in an ttempt to make me quit. i refused to quit. so one day they concocted some nonsense reason to fire me, and attempted to deny me unemployment, after an investigation of the circumstances involving my firing, the state of tennessee awarded my unemployment, and i went on to apply for and was granted ss disability payments. i would still prefer to work but no one wants to hire someone with schedule limitations as mine when there are 5,000 people standing in line for the job without limitations.

Time has come for SSI /SD to set up a unit in each SS unit to review every disability case, and apply universal standards, requiring paperwork and current proof of disability.

Every disability case should be reviewed every three years, or turned out of disability.

This might be appropriate for the VA too, but I know almost nothing about that system, except ythat claims have skyrocketed...But, this may be because these disabled former soldiers are finally coming forward.

Oh btw, it doesn't always have a sad ending, i will try to find the link just as i did for the other post i gave you but this one has a happy ending.
First a little background on it.
SSI recipients get back pay from when they first signed up for their "disability" i use the term very loosely, well a couple of years ago a well known drug head here in Hardin county in deep Southeastern Illinois qualified for disability and got a large check somewhere around $40,000.00 in back pay, he bought a car then partied for the next few days on meth and alcohol, until he died after slipping into a coma.
See?
Even liberalism and it's stupidity has a happy ending sometimes.

Now that law firms specialize in getting people on disability more people are getting on it, even people who are not disabled at all, just lazy people who law firms refer to certain doctors and so on who certify the person is disabled.
The law firms prefer people who have been apllying for 3 years or more as if and when the person gets approved for disability the person gets back pay to the date they first apllied, which can be tens of thousands of dollars. Guess what, the law firms get half or more of that as payment.

One of my nest friends had a kidney transplant and found himself in a similar situation. I lucked into a job that paid extremely well and since his computer skills were far superior to mine I was able to give him some work for a couple of years. Unfortunately he died about two years ago.

You did the classy thing. More people ought to find ways to help people during tough times without turning everything over others.

You have this correct. Most people who become disabled through worker's comp never recover. I had received a horrible concussion, so bad that it pushed the disc out in my neck from the blow. But you know what I didn't want to be disabled, it took three years but I recovered. Most people would. But they don't want to. The attorney told me that people get so addicted to the pain pills that 99% can never work again. It isn't the injury that disables them--it is the pharma. They won't give it up and they never get better. I have a 20% disability and still work. I know union people who are on workers' comp for over 2 years. I was on workers comp for 3 months and went back to work, part-time at first for a few months and then back to full time-but then again. I am not an average moron who wants the government to take care of me. This is how worker's comp is supposed to work, not for a life time. I also have a husband. If a man can't take care of his wife and family, in my opinion what good are they for? I don't want anyone to think I am disabled-what happened to people having some self respect? Now it is a badge of courage for people to declare they are disabled. It is embarrassing to me.

The more hopeless, worthless and pitiful people feel about themselves the more apt they are to settle for anyTHING with a D beside it's name on a Ballot....no matter how devastating the out comes.
