I moved into my house in Oct 2007 and had Sealmaxx seal the 6-month old deck for a cost of $4,000. They damaged my house in the process by using industrial tape to tape tarp to my windows, thus taking off the paint around windows and patio door. They also got product on the siding and stained it. The deck itself looks awful. I resealed it myself in Oct 2008 as it was no longer repelling water. The difference between the two sealants were like night and day. I was amazed to see a post stating that the knotholes are gone - so are mine. The boards are warping, and no amount of washing will improve the appearance. The service was horrible, too.

OH my gosh...I have the same story about this poor product. I've been telling my friends that come over and say that I need to stain my deck that it's just fine. It's suppose to last for 25 years. I'm now wising up and seeing they are right. Let's get a class action suit together...I'm in. Thanks for the comments.

"My sales rep told me to my face that i would never need to stain or seal my deck again which was guaranteed for 25 years. Obviously the rep was misinformed or I was lied to."

Us, too.

Our deck is trashed. Now in addition to the other problems we've had several boards are rotting through. So much for the promises.

Had Sealmaxx rep tell me it would be so hard that you could not hammer a nail in deck - would have to use a drill. Rep would not come and see the splintering that a power wash did to the wood. Alson ruined an old milk can sitting in the yard. Would not even look at damaage. Home office has been shut down since Dec. 2008. All phones disconnected. In process of filing complaint with IA Attorney General's office(they have already had 4 complaints) also the BBB(They have 1 complaint)

Thanks, Gayla. We're in Iowa, too, so I guess I'll be filing a complaint w/ Tom Miller.

Have done further research. The company has changed names to Seal-Smart or Seal-It. Depends on the area of the country. Product itself it from Canada. Web site is still up for Iowa even though home office is closed. Will update when I hear back from Attorney General and the BBB

Still working with the BBB. Attorney General is behind but should start investigation in a couple weeks. Home office of SealMaxx went bankrupt in December 2008, but still has active website.

Gayla, if there's any way we can help in the investigation, we would be happy to do so. Please let us know.

Sealmaxx rep unwilling to do anything about deck.
Attorney General advised small claims court or private attorney. AG is sending me the names of the other complaintents so I can contact them. Will probably go to small claims court. If you are willing to give your name and your situtation, it would be greatly appreciated

Dubuque, Iowa. We hired Seal Maxx in 2004. 2008 and our deck is a mess. Seal Maxx is out of business in our area! I would be very interested in a class action suit against this company. 25 yr. warranty...what a joke!
Been reading all the reviews. I filed a complaint with attorney general's office. They are recommendng further legal action, but they are not investigating at this time. However, if more people complain maybe they will. After all it was to be a 25 yr warranty

AG's office gave me 4 people to contact. unfortunately they were from the Cedar Rapids office. That office went bankrupt. I can still use to prove product is no good. Where was your rep located?
Mine is located in Norwalk area.

Recently I have bought out the Wisconsin SealMaxx equipment ,after a litttle over a year of research on this product ,I actually manufacture the sealant products both wood and concrete. These products work very well.No they arent maintainance free there are sains that do work, well with them. One must remember stain products are always trying to make their formulas better. We at Seal-Rite Products are currently working with a stain manufacture to add color to he sealant product its self.If we can help you or any one else we be happy to do so.www.sealriteproducts.com

I had a similar experience. I contacted Roof-to-Deck Restoration and they were very helpful in taking care of my problem at that point. I would recommend them to anyone.
