Up for sale: Farmland

From the seat of his tractor, or standing alone in a field on his 150-acre farm, George Harris swells with a quiet contentment and pride over the picturesque space where he has toiled for half a century.

Don't let this go to developers.....preserve the land. I'd have to keep 20 acres and build a family compound and sell the rest to preservation stipulating it is never to be developed

He worked the land for 5o+ years. He most certainly has every right to sell whatever he wants and realize the most profit. You all would do the same!

It really is a beautiful area - my family has gone to Harris Hill Farm every year for pumpkins and to see the animals.

Best of luck to the Harris family.

That is sad to see this place go up for sale. I only went there once with my family. They were very friendly group of people. I agree this area should stay away from development. It is a beautiful area. I mean right where the barn is; there was a beautiful view. Plus I don't know if they will be able to keep the animals, but the kids loved the animals. Maybe there is someway to bring revenue, and keep the beauty of this land alive. A family member was mentioning create a White Memorial Conservation area. Maybe with Sunny Valley adding the farm to their land; this will bring more people to New Milford. Thus helping to preserve the land the memory of these people and doing something amazing for the environment.

Condo's and appartments bring more kids than homes.

Restrict them through zoning and watch your taxes stay low.

Also there are too many illegal appartments already in town.

NM needs a Unit like danbury to stamp this out before we become Danbury

Why does the town need to buy it??
Don't they already have property that just sits around like Still Meadows. Just what the tax payers need more property. Instead of thinking hmm let the convention center build and we can get taxes from the owner. Its like another Silo property the Hendersons needs more money than they already have. More tax breaks to people who dont need them and then dont help the poor ones that do need the taxc breaks. Who can shop at the Silo not me?? Let the Harris family sell to whoever wants it. They are older now and now looking to retire in the older years. Sad to see farm land developed but its the nature of the ecomony.

"For he and his family..."? For "he"? The story's writer needs another grammar lesson. We already have illegal aliens if we need someone who doesn't know English. It would be nice if so-called professional jounalists, both in print and on the air, would learn the language.

"Harris Hill Farm on Ridge Road is a sacred place..."

Nit as sacred as BIG MONEY in their pocket. They could sell it to the town for a million and be happy for the rest of their lives. Instead, they want 4 or 5 times that price, making it virtually impossible to protect. Vivian has always been in bed with developers in town, and now comes the payoff.
