This is a prime example of Government "helping" to make businesses play on a level playing field by proving a tax to small businesses that can't compete with a larger chain like wal-mart in selection but can on pricing and shipping services.

Government should just let the market settle this and let people vote with their wallets with whom they want to do business with and not force them to go to some "approved" store like Wal-Mart.

I see no problem with this. Many are SUPPOSED to be collecting these taxes now, but rarely do. The convenience of online purchases ought to be enough to maintain their sales without giving them the ADDITIONAL break of not having to collect taxes.

Give brick-and-morters a chance...tax internet sales.

How would making people pay the same taxes on online purchases as they do at Wal-Mart favor the latter?

"Letting the market settle it" is how Wal-Mart took over American retailing. We shouldn't trust the market, which is largely a Neoliberal fantasy anyway.

do the owners of the free obamaphones have to pay the tax, or do others pay the tax on their behalf?

we're pretty much fooked, we've got half, or more of the people in this country getting a free ride, while the other half is doing all the work, and paying all the taxes. I blame LBJ

All Obama has to do is flip his communications switch and the only cell phones that will work and receive attack information is those with free phones.

This is another example of government over stepping their bounderies, and wanting something the people do not want. We are taxed to death it is. We need to be able to save a nickel, and a dime.

You are correct, it all began with LBJ`s Great Society policies. This started the moral decay of America with the political correctness crapola that has all but destroyed the quality of public education in America by putting unqualified socialist scum teaching in the schools. Moving inner city gangs and drug dealers to the suburbs through forced busing, lowerin college entrance and graduation requirements through affirmative action which also kept intelligent more capable job applicants from being hired because of BS racial quotas.

And unless Americans get a backbone these anti-American destroyers of the U.S.Constitution will continue to destroy us all. The policies of obama is the same as when his butt buddy george soros tried some years back to bring down the UK`s monetary system. While soros has been silent these past couple of years he is still pulling obamas puppet strings as our dollar continues to lose value. They are succeeding to do to us what they failed to to to the UK. And while we suffer our children`s children will feel the brunt of this USSR ploy to convert America to 2 classes of people, very rich and poor. Obama is wiping out the middleclass alittle at a time. Get set for a rocky summer.

We could if Obama hadn't put in his two cents worth. That's about all he had before coming to the White House.

It would favor stores like Wal-Mart because unlike the larger retailer that is Wal-Mart or like sized businesses, a smaller business would have far fewer options for sale.

Consider this, currently you can order items on-line for no tax and often with free shipping often at a lower price than you would be able to buy at a store, thus a pricing advantage for that small business that you just did business with.

By adding a tax you remove that advantage for the smaller business and instead give the larger store the leverage to either match or undercut the smaller business prices with packages for items that the smaller business doesn't sell.

Say the smaller business only sells shampoo. Wal-Mart (used at an example of the larger business if this wasn't already assumed by now)could then created unique contracts for exclusive products such as say a free razor with a shampoo of similar quality just because they are the larger business.

The market is the people. Unless you are suggesting that the people can't or shouldn't decide how to spend their money I believe it is the best formula for success in an economy and the internet with it's no sale taxes is the equalizer in our current economy which someone can create a website to sell a product and do quite well for themselves as oppose to a on site store that they have to go through mountains of paper work just to start and then live under a sales tax as they try to move their product and make a profit against larger and better stocked competition.
