Good for Hedberg,
The Police are running a racket with their workmans' comp abuses, 20 year retirements, and the "stacking" of overtime in the last years. Those approaching retirement get the cushey duty - parades, basketball games, etc. especially on holidays.
Traffic duty is another thing - last time I heard, they were getting $65.00 per hour for private duty.
Often, military time is credited toward retirement years. These guys can retire at 40 yoa with pensions close to 100K per year (depending on rank) and full medical as well.
Towns need to get tough. The system is rotten.
As far as Worker Comp I agree that no one should be scamming and if there is a scam going on it is up to the Dept Head, Town Mgr and the insureance comp to crack down on it! As for private (Traffic) jobs the town should be charging the contractor for the hours worked and if set up the right way the town would cover the full cost of the officer, benefits, car expense and possibly make a buck.

I wonder if when the cop was following Jeff if it was on overtime? If so he should be forbidden to have overtime anymore. Sad thing is since the cop got one day of suspension some other cop got one day of overtime.

Since he seems to like sitting around watching people he should be assigned to the corner of Linwood and Main. Everyone in the neighborhood figures the kid there is dealing drugs. Whenever school is out the kid sits in his car at the end of the driveway and cars stop. The alleged customers dont get out, the kid crouches at their window a few minutes and then the driver drives off. It's been going on for years. Hmmm, whats going on there?

Esteban, since you aren't so happy with the police, why don't you confront the kid at the corner selling drugs? Oh wait, you might be one of those people that complain all the time but refuse to take action. Perhaps you should attend POST and try to make a difference if your complaint is that serious.

I love and admire the police. I am not happy that the officer in question was given a slap on the hand for such an egregious abuse of power, that is all.

Believe me I have confronted this kid on a couple things but the fact that I have a family keeps me from getting too involved. If I was getting paid and had a gun and a badge I would not be sitting in a parking lot waiting to harrass good citizens.

I dont know what "POST" is but I'll look it up, thanks.

I looked up "POST". Since it caters to law enforcement training I am guessing you are suggesting I become an officer. Is that correct?

For the last few mornings (6:45am) there is a cop sitting at Stoddard and Willard. Don't ask what he is doing. People are still running the red light and he sits there. When we asked for police to be at Harding and Lloyd after school we are told they don't have the man power. We have asked for a police officer to drive around Main Street and Stoddard and down towards the WH line after school since there are alot of 10 and 11 year olds walking to and from school. We were told that they don't have the manpower. We had to ask that the crossing guard be on the correct side of Main and Stoddard when the kids are crossing at the Shell station. Up until last year she sat at Yanni's. We would like her to cross the kids, but she will only step off the curb, walk a few steps and go back. You have kids walking across the Shell station parking lot and Whole donut parking lot at 8:00 am. Trust me people are not looking out for kids. People are going right on red even though the sign says no turn on red. We can't get the police to show up every once in awhile. Oops, I did see one last year at the old gulf station at 7:00 am, well before any middle school or elementary school kids are walking to school.

It may seem like "just one police officer stalking a representative over a police-union contract".

Has anyone actually looked at the large picture of the Police-State that has now enveloped this country? Have you seen the new police cars with their battering rams---that we all paid for?

This story doesn't even register on the "tip of the iceberg".

Wake up!
