..... As the inhabitants of countries in Asia get richer, so expect the inhabitants of countries in the West to get poorer. Thank the union wage demands, free trade, and globalizatioin for that in part!

Two major points in considering poverty are:the poverty threshold and the poverty guidelines.Poverty has been officially measured by the U.S. Census Bureau since 1964 and since then, reports on poverty levels have been issued each fall, reflecting the previous calendar year.

About the time of LBJ's "Great Society".

And the numbers have gone up every since.

..... Poverty is caused by insufficient income and/or too much spending.
..... To prevent poverty, or to get out of poverty, it is necessary to usually spend less than income and put the difference into reasonably safe investments that earn money.
