Funny how when it first happened it was a 8' deep hole then the news gets wind and it is 14' deep this morning and now tonight on the news it is a 18' deep hole. How do you get someone out of a 18' deep hole with a 6' ladder?

You use the ladder to scrape at the sides of the hole and collect dirt. Start piling the dirt up against one side of the hole and pack it down. Once the dirt is 6' high use the ladder to clime on the dirt pile then pull up the ladder. Rince and repeat until you have climbed out of the 18' deep hole using a 6' ladder.

such is hte nature of people trying to get the story out before all the facts are clear....

the story linked ot one this page clearly stated the ladder was too short and a rope was used to haul the sandbagger out.(6 handicap my ass...)

Even Washington DC could not have sucked up our money as fast as the hole sucked in this guy and that's pretty impressive in itself. Glad he's safe. If he died, ANNBRIAR would be a ghost town.

To whom are you speaking? Because without that little bit of information, you are the one looking foolish.

You saw it before or after it was dug up? They put the ladder in, the other guy crawled down the ladder because the guy couldn't climb up the ladder by himself. He made a sling for him then tied the rope around him so the others could help him up the ladder with a rope and his friend pushing from behind him. That didn't happen from 18'

My point was it was originally reported right after it happened that it was a 8' hole, on hole #14 and it took 18min to get him out and he had a dislocated shoulder. Monday morning the local media state he fell 14' then Somehow several days later the national media turns it into a 18' fall to his near death and he broke his shoulder. Just funny to hear how the story gets more and more dramatic.

The hole opened up deeper than 8ft morons. Just woosh and bam. When they started digging they didn't reach way down in the bottom first you halfwits, they set up and worked their way in from the side. If anything the hole appeared shallower after the first bit of excavating from dirt broken loose and falling inward. Nitpick all you want, it doesnt make everone ELSE wrong and stupid.

Hey schitzo, who the hell are you talking too?

Nobody posting on this thread said the hole was 8' deep. Nobody is "nitpicking", a "moron[s]" or "halfwits" except you. Re-read the whole thread without anger and you misplaced feelings of superiority.

The whooshing sound you're hearing is the point of the entire thread going over you head.

Sorry, the very first post indicates it was reported by the news to be 8' deep, then 14' then 18'. This is a good example of taking a portion of the quote out of context. The point the poster was trying to make was how it changed over time. He never said "I claim the hole was 8' deep. Beezlebub is blowing hard about things beside the point and never stated.

He(first poster) was implying that the holes size was steadily being exaggerated to a greater extent, when in fact its size was understated in the beginning. I'm assuming the first poster, " the loo" is also the thread starter, that's who my first reply was towards. Should've been obvious to anyone from my verbage, as I wouldnt have defended the depth of the hole to someone already explaining it was deep enough that the ladder wasn't enough to someone who didn't get it. Then "suckers" implies that the news MUST be wrong for whatever reason, based on nothing apparently, because it wasn't. Then "the loo" comes back and questions whether Isaw the hole before or after they began to dig, which does have a certain relevency but the answer was beFORE they got past the edge that they dug out to get closer into the main hole, which means BEFORE they did any exploring into the actual sinkhole to determine its extent , which means, if anything, the depth I saw was shallower due to dirt falling into the hole during that process. My staement was that the hole was considerably deeper than 8ft in the beginning, which was attacked. Believe what you want, I choose to believe my eyes, and tend to defend truthful statements I've made when they're questioned .

@Bub. No problem hearing what you are saying although dont think there was any "attacking" going on when I stated it was a 8' hole. Was based on what the my friends who are owners of the course told me when they showed me the pic of the 6' ladder in the hole with the top of the ladder right at the top of the hole. maybe the owners were mistaken? The point was just that it was funny how the story just gets twisted as the media takes over and reports it. No big deal!

@Everyone. I apologize that I did not put a disclosure in the initial post stating that "NO measuring device was actually used to determine exact depth of hole and statement is only used as reference to the exaggeration of the media" assumed everyone was able to plainly see the tongue in check....forgot...topix....not possible!

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Pisces

Things are not always what they seem today, so be careful. Someone might appear to be completely honest but turn out later to have been fooling you in some way. Or a situation may seem quite clear-cut right now but forthcoming events will reveal that things are very different under the surface. So be wary about who and what you believe, and don't let anyone push you into making important decisions today because they may not be in your best interests.
