Sound response Tim, and a good idea. Now why do I feel “Pedro” is an Oregon-hater in thin disguise..?“Beaverton” maybe?
Sorry, though I suspect I’m right, I’ll hold onto your idea of Instant Insurance Verification. But you’re also right in that too may big players (employers) want to keep things just the way they are. Think of the wage increases, work-place safety and healthcare benefits those employers would have to consider if hiring US Citizens. It’s much easier for them to continue to pay less than living wages, ignore safety and skip health care with a constant supply of desperate labor. So “Pedro,” are you legal? And “Open season” on who? Another sad fact in this debate is the constant and purposeful disruption coming from the far left … A supporter of much of ‘their’ agenda, they lose credibility (and my support) hanging on to this issue. Please, for the sake our nation, look for serious ways to curb this abuse of our national goodness; like Tim. |

i like your sticker idea, tim...but here is what i do know...that might be the flaw.
a lot of people get insurance just long enough to get a card (or sticker) then cancel it. they need the card and acct number to register the car or get a license...but nothing stops them from not making the next payment...or cancelling. sigh |

You are correct Claudia. One only has to show it to DMV upon getting or registering for a license. The sticker UPC bar code would easily tell if the insurance has lapsed or not either. It's a world of computers and hi-tech these days. It's just a matter of using it to promote the correct agenda. The insurance companies would love this since everyone would have to get insurance no matter how little coverage(liability by law) and more money into the general insurance pool for that insurance company. It would kind of be like universal car insurance. Look how much one pays because we have to have insurance for uninsured drivers? The one downside I can perhaps see is that insurance companies don't want EVERYBODY. Those of high risk and previous DUIs. Anything can be worked out though.

its a great step in the right direction, tim. i agree completely.
im just a bit gun shy tho. i have had 2 cars totalled by unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered non english speaking people!!! unless they are stopped by the police for some reason, no one will know if they have insurance, etc, before the hit someone...and that victim gets to pay the bill. but i do applaud you for working in the right direction. that uninsured motorist crap didn't pay to replace my cars at all..not a single penny. it only helped cover medical expenses. it galls me to pay a dime for those not abiding by the law. |

1 The House has already passed H.R. 6633 reauthorizing the E-Verify program, but in the Senate, Sen. Menendez (R- NJ) and some others are trying to force the Senate to add an amendment bringing in 550,000 more foreign workers, claiming that these visas were unused left-over visas from previous years. This claim is false. Please call, fax, or email Senators Wyden and Smith, and urge them to support passage of H.R. 6633 with no strings attached and no foreign worker visas. |

1 E-Verify is set to expire on November 30, 2008, unless it is re-authorized by Congress. The House of Representatives has already passed a reauthorization bill by a vote of 407-2, while the Senate has not yet taken action. To help inform debate over E-Verify, the Center for Immigration Studies has produced a thorough evaluation. The Backgrounder, entitled “If It’s Fixed, Don’t Break It: Moving Forward with E-Verify,” is authored by Janice Kephart, Director of National Security Studies at the Center and a former counsel to the 9/11 Commission. The report covers the many facets of the E-Verify debate: statistics regarding usage, cost, and effectiveness; legislative history; executive orders affecting the program; the relationship of E-Verify to worksite enforcement; and past improvements to the program as well as future goals. The report is available online at www.cis.org . Among the findings: # As of the first half of FY 2007, only one-half of one percent of eligible employees screened had to take additional steps to obtain work authorization; overall, the system is 99.5% accurate. # More than 93 percent of employees are verified within five seconds; another 1.2 percent are verified within 24 hours. A new Photo Screening Tool and a streamlined procedure for naturalized citizens to receive authorization are increasing accuracy and efficiency for employers and employees; naturalized citizens no longer need to take remedial action at Social Security. # About 5 percent of new employees are not confirmed as work authorized, mirroring the same percentage of illegal aliens estimated to be in the labor force. # When E-Verify became web-based later in 2004, 1,533 employers had signed up. As of September 13, 2008, there are 85,816 employers representing over 446,000 sites and over 6.21 million queries processed. Currently, about 1,000 new employers join per week. # Eleven states require use of E-Verify in certain circumstances (AZ, CO, GA, ID, MN, MO, MS, NC, OK, RI, and UT). |
