Let rich pay to fix deficit, say Americans

Full story: DispatchPolitics

Americans want Congress to bring down a federal budget deficit that many believe is "dangerously out of control" only under two conditions: minimize the pain and make the rich pay.

You like Marx?
"It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more in proportion."
Adam Smith
The Wealth of Nations
It isn't a very difficult idea to envision. I am sure he was not the first to think about it. Marx certainly was not.
All you proved is that two people from Europe came up with bad ideas that were similar.

Lots of people across the world come up with bad ideas. Just because two bad ideas might be similar doesn't make them right.

I gave you a standing ovation. Something wrong with your hearing?

So you believe in a very progressive tax system, 100% publicly funded campaigns, the striking down of Citizens United, strong unions, strong labor laws, strong trade policies that discourage outsourcing, single payer health care, etc.

Who knew? You are now a progressive and a liberal and, therefore, an actual human being instead of a fungoid.

It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Most on the left believe the rich are bad and the middle class is oppressed by the rich.

Obama and the left describe someone making $250,000 a year as rich.

I am wondering what is so magical about that number?

In the mind of the Liberal what is it that happens with that defining line between "rich" and "middle-class"?

If the line between "rich" and "middle-class" isn't separated by $.01, was Obama wrong or right in defining it as such?

There is nothing wrong with being rich. There is something wrong with being poor in a Country so filled with opportunities foreigners are sneaking in by the thousands, taking jobs, some starting their own businesses, and getting (gasp) rich!!

I'm from immigrant stock and that's what happened. My family didn't waste their time on stupidities like vacations, going out to dinner all the time, blowing money drinking at bars, cable TV, cell phones, etc. My grandfather owned his own business, working 70 hours a week and taking a vacation 3 times in 40 years.
That's why I am greatly offended when some clown who wants to blow his money and doesn't want to sacrifice, wants to leech off of someone who did.
It's not my fault you want to spend everything you make, when I save it. Why don't you do the same thing?
Thank you!

Common sense isn't so common is it?

I a considered wealthy by Obama.

My wife drives a 10 year old car. I do the car repairs myself.

I drive a I drive a 19 year old car.

We shop at Dollarstore, Goodwill, buy refurbished, buy used and second hand, and build what we need when we can. We needed a new couch, I built one, entertainment center, tables, headboards, and much else.

I do physical labor for my job. I don't sit in a cushy office.

Becoming rich is more about controlling your spending than earning more.

So did my grandfather. But I don't have a problem with helping the truly needy.

Same here. I would add to the list that we always kept cars for 10 years, even back in the 1970's when they became junkers after 3 years, also pay for everything in cash (no credit or leases). That's the way to do things if you want to get ahead and if you want to protect yourself from getting laid off.
It doesn't cost a lot to live. Food is cheap, and if your house is paid for, housing is also cheap.
It all depends on where you live.

I don't have a problem helping out the truly needy either. It is the leeches, and deadbeats that scam the system that I have a problem with, and since the Democrats haven't figured out a way to identify which is which, I want them to be very careful who they take to raise.

Let's see how you feel if you worked your tail off for ten years to make six figures and have some loser come along and tell you to pay 40% federal taxes for the betterment of society along with a government that can't put away the credit card. I know what y'all would say ... stuff it ...
And what about the middle to low income people. They deserve to pay forty percent of their measly salary? Are you delusional? There are people out there who are single and living with others simply because they can't afford to to live by themselves on what they make and you want them to shoulder the majority of the Tax Burden. Who told you that working for someone else for ten years entitles you to a raise. Some of the laborers I know don't get over what amounts to less than minimum wage and when they pay a larger percentage in taxes than you do, that is WRONG and that is the point, so get off your soap box about how hard you struggled. They struggle harder than you do on a daily basis. The working class American who works manual labor all day everyday and makes people like you the money you earn, as you administrate his earnings are the type of people who will never get a raise, just barely get by and pay the majority of the taxes. I am not specifically talking about you to begin with, but you should be looking at people like Rupert Murdoch and the three largest fortune five hundred companies that pay NO INCOME TAX and wondering why you are paying their share, that is who I am talking about, you oversensitive butt hurt little troll. When I am making five figures as a union journeyman, I ended up paying almost one third of my wages to taxes, so get off your high horse, numb brain.
