I think it's worth reminding folks that Social Security is insurance, not investment. You pay your dues in the form of FICA tax. Your benefit depends on how much you paid in and how long you live. Instead of investing for gain it is protection against the risk outliving your resources. The biggest benefit is that it is backed by the US Government, not a sometimes up / sometimes down investment house in a volatile market.
