Jun 7, 2012 Full story: Patch.com 15

Albertsons is WAY more expensive than Ralphs, Vons, or Trader Joes. The only ones who can afford to shop there are Food Stamp people who don't have to care about cost. Albertson's priced too high for those who have to pay attention to food costs.

Inflexible businesses close down when they stick to a faulty business model. Happens every day. Clear out the crap to allow an opportunity for people responsive to changing markets, and understand simple math.

So, the parent company of Albertsons wants to increase their profits by laying off 2,500 employees, on Father's Day, no less. Well, to hell with that, I'll shop elsewhere. Those markets are going to be ghost towns inside. Very few employees and even fewer customers.

We should all be grateful to Albertsons for spending the money to build their Store in Downtown Long Beach in spite of the ongoing decline and decay of the area. Sad for Albertsons but really devastating for the good people who invested in the condos living in an area with boarded up store fronts for the length of Pine Avenue. Ouch. Long Beach voters elected City leaders who completely failed them all.

My fellow kids and I are always saddened when we hear of hard working moms and dads being booted out the door and onto the street. This is especially true in the case of employees of local grocers, grocers who are no longer able to compete because of Council actions such as the infamous Lowenthal harassment tax. This harassment tax is imposed on the minority of hard working moms and dads who pay hard earned tax money.*(The Long Beach voting majority who pay for their groceries with taxpayer funded food stamps are exempt from paying Lowenthal grocery bag harassment taxes)*

Another example of revolutionary Council's efforts to reduce local employment of hard working moms and dads is what Council cleverly calls a "tobacco sellers permit". The phony rationale Council uses to shake-down local grocers with that tax is that such "job destroying" tax laws "discourage the sale of tobacco products to us kids".

Although even free-spending out-of-control State politicians are ashamed to charge local grocers more than a one time tobacco seller's permit tax of $100, revolutionary Council unashamedly charges grocers a punitive job destroying annual tobacco sellers tax of $493 for EACH location.

I suppose it is easy for ideologically driven revolutionary Council to view hard working middle *("worker")* class grocery store employees as just so much cannon fodder for the ongoing revolution. When it is our moms and dads who are losing their jobs, though, us kids do not view them in that same revolutionary light. These hard working moms and dads are not just revolutionary Government "statistics". They are real flesh and blood people.

Ronald, if you bring your own bag, you don't have to pay for one. Also, if you don't bring a bag into the store, just have them put your stuff in your shopping cart, wheel it out to your car, and put it in something there. Whole Foods also GIVES you 10 cents off for every bagful of groceries you buy, using your own bag.
Quit being such a whiney drama queen.

Yes. I agree. Revolutionary Council supposes a Council dependent citizenry are being drowned in millions of plastic grocery bags that are clogging our streets and our sidewalks. I don't suppose they ever think of using some of that hard earned taxpayer money they collect to encourage community action groups - particularly their radical political action group supporters - to simply pick up the bags and deposit them into the Government trash bins.

Us kids often hear Council and their trendy supporters claim our friends, the fish, are eating plastic bags and dying.*(although they provide no hard evidence of the numbers beyond the usual politicized conjecture)* Isn't it curious that they have no qualms about the harvesting of millions of tons of our finny friends from the sea, and then butchering and eating them?

Albertson's does a great service to the EBT Community. Contact your CounciPerson and demand that taxpayers further subsidize Albertsons so they can continue to operate in Long Beach.

You're right. There is the LGBT community, Mental Health community, Parolee Community, "Undocumented" community, and now the EBT Community. We are on a roll here in LB.:(

We wouldn't want to be less than politically correct. We are defined by the inherent dishonesty of "political correctness." It's but one of the reason's every one says Long Beach is for Losers.

If you're a transgendered person who lives in Long Beach and gets food stamps, does that make you a LBGLBTEBT?

And what if you use your food stamps to buy a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich? Now we're dealing with a LBGLBTEBTBLT.

A report from a usually reliable source states that a debris field as large as three times the area of the United States is headed toward the west coast. All we hear from the politically powerful Big Lowenthal gang is silence.

The "double dipping" Lowenthal gang devised a clever scheme to impose Lowenthal grocery bag harassment taxes on the minority of Long Beach food eaters who pay taxes. Those who pay for their overpriced groceries with taxpayer funded food stamps are exempted from paying the Lowenthal grocery bag harassment tax - BY LAW!

Shouldn't the Lowenthal gang be just as concerned about the adverse effect this debris field may have on our friends - the fish - as much as they are concerned with making political points with the voting majority of city residents who do not pay taxes?
