They were breaking the law, seat belts are a requirement. How hard is it is to click it on. And the baby without being in a baby seat, which could have saved the babys life. Some people should not be allowed to have children !

I lost count of the infractions. We all know they were J-walkers and just spaced-out young parents. This terrible event will provide a "Reality Check-Up"....Listen-up Senioretas and be responsible and protect and guide your children. Please, please please.

It is very sad but if the Mother did not place the child in a car seat, let us hope she is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

i was on that highway that night. traffic was backed up for at least 5 miles, we missed the accident by minutes. there were so many emergency personnel at the scene we knew something really horrible had happened. it's maddening to know that this poor baby lost her life because the mother was too stupid to buckle her up. the mother will forever suffer for her mistake and hopefully some good will come out of this story, maybe others will think twice and put their baby in a car seat. I can't imagine not buckling up my kids!!!!

People, who don't have the courage to identify themselves, are very quick to judge not knowing the exact details while the case is still under investigation, and showing no understanding of the mother's suffering.Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

What part of "No Restraints" don't you understand????A sheriff's sergeant said the girl was not restrained in the car in which she was traveling with her mother..........

You should ask God, why didn.t she use restraints as the law requires. The mother could have cured the problem if she obeyed the law.

Sure no one is perfect but a mother protects her children no matter what. There is absolutely no excuse for not having a baby in a car seat. The baby was only 7 months old, not even walking yet or having the ability to free itself from a car seat. It's just flat out laziness.

I do not understand why people comments are bad. They do not know what really what happen. if you seen the car you would know the baby even in carseat would more likely died away. so you need check your facts first, not there mounths

I am sorry sir, the driver broke the law. That is fact and the baby being ejected do to the mother's negligence/laziness is also a fact. My hope is that other mothers will read my "Tough Love" message and think..... Please don't be Grumpy about facts

Please do not judge what you do not know. Although we all make mistakes...some greater than others before casting a stone you must first make sure your hands are clean and free of sin. While this child may have been unrestrained was it also the mothers fault that the driver coming in the opposite direction moved into on coming traffic? I ask again do not judge the mother, the child, the father, the sister, or the driver of the other vehicle for what was exactly what it's called AN ACCIDENT
My heart goes out to Baby Clarissa, the Germans, and the Cortez family. Mother and father have both suffered enough at the lose of their daughter and will live everyday knowing that they lost their daughter please stop posting these thoughtless comments they only bring greater pain to the family.
The German and Cortez family have suffered enough loss throughout the passed couple of years please let them deal with their pain in peace.

I'm sorry you are misinformed those involved in the accident HAVE read this story and your comments. If you'd like to make people aware of their responsibilities there are better ways to do it, for example maybe starting an educational website that educates parents and the community on safety and security. Maybe your help topics can be a little more gentle to the feelings of those involved. You might also want to volunteer time in a hospital or during lamas classes to educate parents on the importance of buckling in their children. I have a good idea how about writing a letter to Caltrans about the dangers of highway 46. Again the parents HAVE read your heartless comments and so have the family of the parents. We support our family because we are all human and do make mistakes. The key to mistakes is that you learn from them. Im sure that without your comments many people read this article and learned from someone elses mistakes. These comments have brought great pain to the parents....greater than you can even imagine...i suggest that you seriously take into consideration the parents pain and remove this thread or at least the heartless anonymous comments that have been posted.
