City Councilwoman Renee Hager call the spot, "Madison's patriotic point." The small piece of land is a former city beautification project, just past the historic courthouse at the intersection of State Street and state Route 85, just in front of Mike's Tire Shop Hager says it is a focal point for motorists traveling through Madison.

She is righ .
I think It is a focus point for sure. It has great potential.
You would have to do a few things.....
Have landscaping that takes away from the tire shop.
Make it a Madison trademark for advertising. Not signs, but cosmetic beautification. like the rock at water ways. when u see itu know u are in the Boone.
Have a universal theme, but treat it seasonal.

it's a money funnel. they should spend money on the things that are need in madison, roads, water, sewage, police etc. the people need to come first, before some focial point for the city is undertaken.

So does using the coal severance tax in a productive manner. but here we are.

You know I went to guyan valley the other day and they had signs asking for city water.

Interesting comment.
In the mean time what color plant do you want with your tires?

I don't.
I like the idea of making the city look better. Landscaping , revup or demolition.
I know roger wearver gets alot of crap as well. But, he keeps Madison from being a slum with his crew.
The park and the surrounding area would be a trash bin if not for them.

up keep of the city is great and is needed every day. but there are more important thing that the city could spend the money on. i hope madison and danville prosper and look great, it's good for the people and businesses of these towns. take care of the needs first then, the luxuries can come second.

There could have been better use of the money chad pennington spent for the park in madison , Yet, sometimes Goodwrench, moral can be served by such. I understand your view though and agree. Yet, there will always be a balencing act.

there is a need for projects like that. kids need a place to go and things to do. it keeps them out of trouble. we need more of them in our surounding towns. and i agree there has to be a balancing of needs and beauty but, if your roof is leaking you don't spend your money on paint for the living room.

Some may argue that there could have been better use of the money but those who know what they are talking about and how the system works will tell you that when you are approached and offered something free of charge such as the recent park you do not refuse or negotiate the offer. You gladly accept and move forward with it. A park is what Chad Pennington offered the City; not new roads, water or sewage.

I don't know of one single time the city has turned down something Massey offered them. The county on the other hand has turned down several offers, most which would benefit our kids.

that's a good thing for the city. the county is stupid for turning it down. it hurts everyone. they turn it down because they don't want to piss off the UMWA. to turn down a gift for the people of this county is very foolish of them.
